ELECAM registers 433,873 new electors in 2019, says it’s ready for any surprise poll

The Director General of Elections at Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Dr Erik Essousse has declared that the elections management body is ready to handle any surprise poll if Cameroonians are convened to the polls before the announced January 2020 elections.
He gave the assurance last September 18, 2019 during a press briefing granted in the conference hall of the newly constructed Head Office of Elections Cameroon, to reveal figures of voters at the end of the 2019 voters revision exercise last January 2 to August 31, 2019.
The Director General of Elections, Erik Essousse revealed that “we recorded 433,873 newly enrolled electors, 59.65% of which are men (270,593) and 40.35% women (163,280). This total comprises 300,375 youth, representing 69.23%.”

Comparing the figures to that of 2018, Dr Erik Essousse said the registration exercise recorded an increase of 50,000 electors thereby raising the total number of electors as of 2019 to 7,116,314 while waiting for clean-up in order to delete the names of deceased persons, convicted persons and those who have lost their eligibility as electors.
He promised that in compliance with the Electoral Code, provisional electoral registers will be published not later than October 20, 2019 at the various ELECAM Branches particularly Council Branches and after all the Branches must have made all corrections, the final national register will be published not later than December 30, 2019.
While thanking all stakeholders of the electoral process; ELECAM officials, political parties, the administration and civil society organisations for the recorded success, he informed voters who are yet to collect their cards that distribution will continue nationwide.
