There is no time to rest for members of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM and all its staff, following the convening of the Electoral Colleges for the election of Regional Councillors next November 30, 2025 by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, last September 1, 2025. As the entire ELECAM team is preparing to handle the upcoming presidential poll, their work load was added by the Head of State.

Chairing their first statutory session as of right last September 8, 2025, the Chairperson of the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM and President of Elections Cameroon, Dr Enow Abrams Egbe disclosed that, “As you are aware, this election is taking place at a pivotal moment in our electoral history, as it is the first time we have had to conduct an election within another election. This cannot be overstated, as we must navigate through the presidential and regional election calendars simultaneously.”

Dr Enow Abrams Egbe admitted that, “this is a new challenge, but I believe that if we continue to work together as we always have, we can overcome it.” He reminded Electoral Board members that they are meeting in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Code.

The President of Elections Cameroon stressed that, “the regional elections are more than just another electoral milestone; they are a cornerstone of Cameroon’s decentralisation process and a vital mechanism for transferring power closer to the people. By electing regional councillors, the Republic is breathing new life into local governance and empowering communities to shape policies and development agendas that reflect their realities and aspirations. This election is therefore both a constitutional duty and a democratic promise, strengthening national unity while celebrating local diversity.”

He stated that the main objective of this session is to validate and adopt a harmonised calendar of activities for the Electoral Board and the Directorate General of Election.

He stressed that, “this consolidated calendar will be essential to guarantee coherance, efficiency and responsibility in the execution of the various stages in the organisation and management of these elections.”

Dr Enow Abrams Egbe reminded that, “we have just returned from the field where we evaluated the level of preparedness for the forthcoming presidential election in the various constituencies and also engaged with our operational staff to ensure their readiness towards the election.”
