GHS Vemngang Principal hails Prof Nalova Lyonga for introducing distance learning in Secondary Schools

The Principal of Government High School, GHS Vemngang in Ngoketunjia Division of the North West region, Kuchah Christian Kum has praised Secondary Education Minister, Prof Pauline Nalova Lyonga for introducing distance learning in schools in Cameroon.

The Principal of GHS Vemngang was speaking to The SUN in an exclusive chat last November 12, 2025 in which he rejoiced that ‘‘it has helped to reduce the pain of many students who do not have access to text books and other research gadgets.’’

Giving his experience in the implementation of distance learning in his school, Kuchah Christian Kum explained that the distance learning lessons are holding in the Divisional Catchment for security reasons. “Faced with the vision of digitalization as prescribed by the Honorable Minister of Secondary Education, my institution, like others has been engaged in the distance learning programme for the past four years. I must confess that this programme has demystified the teaching/learning process.’’

He further explained that, ‘‘every child who has access to the Internet can make his/her dreams come true from his bedroom.

Kuchah Christian Kum rejoiced that, ‘‘the distance learning programme initiated by Secondary Education, has helped to reduce the pain of many students who do not have access to text books and other research gadgets. Students have been given lessons, and these lessons have helped to improve recent results in most institutions.’’

In a press release, the Minister of Secondary Education informed the general public, parents, teachers, and students that a series of catch-up lessons were organísed by the Distance Learning Centre.

Prof Nalova Lyonga emphasised that, ‘‘this initiative aims to ensure that all secondary school students across the country achieve parity in teaching coverage and are prepared adequately for their academic progression despite recent interruptions.’’

She said the catch-up programme organised and overseen by the Distance Learníng Centre began last November 10, 2025 and will focus on core subjects for both the General and Technical Education streams.

The Secondary Education boss instructed ‘‘Regional Delegates, principals and teachers to collaborate fully with the Distance Learning Centre to facilitate the effective implementation of this program’’, the release reads.
