The SDF member of Parliament for Bamenda and Bali constituency, Hon Fobi Nchinda Simon has made known his intension to emerge as the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming presidential election in October. He was speaking during a press briefing that held at the party’s secretariat at Congress Hall Street, Bamenda.
According to the seventy-one year old MP, the time for Cameroon’s takeoff has come.
“I’m pleading with each Cameroonian at home and abroad to help me build a strong coalition so as to make a meaningful change in our country. Change will come to our country and this election is our way to achieve it…” Hon. Fobi Nchinda Simon told reporters. “I call on all Cameroonians to come together and correct these ills by going out and registering to vote and making sure that they have a say as to what direction this country is heading” the MP added.
Born in June 1947 in Bamenda, Hon. Forbi began his career as assistant professor at the National School of Engineering of Yaounde I before moving into politics thereafter. The presidential aspirant is currently a second-term Parliamentarian for Bamenda and Bali and current member of the Finance and Budget Committee at the National Assembly in the 9th legislature.
Since it was made known that the Chairman of the SDF Party Ni John Fru Ndi will not run for the Presidency come October this year, Members of Parliament of different constituencies have begun making their intensions known to run for the presidency. Hon. Fobi’s intension comes shortly after those of Hon. Joshua Osih and Hon. Mbah Ndam all MPs of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) party. Only the National Elective Convention of the party billed for February 22-24, 2018 shall select the final candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
In prelude to the National Elective Convention this year, the NEC meeting that took place last Friday February 9 scrutinized and finalized on the preparations ahead of the convention.
Speaking to the press at the of the meeting the Vice Secretary General of NEC, Njong Donaltus, mayor of Kumbo said the party yet to receive any applicantions for presidential bids. The party, he stated is however prepared to throw its support behind any chosen presidential candidate of the SDF which shall be decided during the National Elective Convention later this year.
