Horror week in Limbe

-Businessman gruesomely murdered, buried by collaborator, accomplices

-Unidentified corpse found near court premises

-Husband butchers wife for alleged infidelity, who is in turn murdered by irate mob

The city of Limbe is still in shock and consternation following a number of macabre happenings across the week.

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Limbe woke up to images circulating on social media of the murder of a businessman in Limbe, allegedly masterminded by his collaborator. The deceased by name Dinga Protus was the owner of a quarry company in Limbe.

Reports have it that Dinga was killed and buried on Monday, May 5, 2025 by the assaillants around  a parcel of land he owned, after he was tricked by his collaborator of a business deal. However, the exact reason why he was killed remains unknown at press time as investigations have been opened. His corpse was exhumed on Thursday, May 8, 2025 and buried at his compound while the actors of the barbaric act are presently at the Limbe Central Police Station awaiting trial.

In a replay of the act on Thursday, May 8, where Dinga Protus was killed at his plot in Kie village New Layout, The SUN gathered that Abel George, in his 30s is said to have hired three other persons from Mutengene who are less than 25 years old, for the job. Abel George is said to have lived and worked with Dinga for many years. That fateful Monday, he is said to have gone to Dinga’s house after digging his grave and called him on phone that someone is building on his land at Kie village and that he should come fast with the land documents.

The other three were already at the site waiting for him. Dinga reportedly drove his car with photocopies of the land documents to Kie village New Layout where he met doom.

Reports detail that one of the killers hit a hammer on his head and the other stabbed him with a knife and the businessman succumbed to the injuries, after a cut on his neck.

He was buried in the already dug grave by the boys and the said killers disappeared with his car to Douala even though they did not have the car documents with them.

Unfortunately, they got into an incident meanwhile Dinga’s wife had earlier alerted the Limbe Central Police Station that her husband had disappeared, after he was taken out of the house by Abel George for over two days.  Investigations were opened and the said killers were apprehended.

According to Abel George, he had been working for Dinga and he was giving him peanut as salary. He added that he had already contacted a buyer to buy the said parcel of  Dinga’s land at Kie New Layout to give him some money.

At the scene where the incident occurred, Fako Senior Divisional Officer, Engelbert Viang Mekala and his delegation wondered aloud why George Abel could mastermind such a barbaric act.

Corpse discovered at Coconut Island

Barely 24 hours after the news of Dinga Protus’ murder, Limbe again woke up on Friday, May 9, with news of a corpse found around the Court of First Instance, Coconut Island, Limbe.

Pundits are of the opinion that it could be the remains of a teenager who got himself with tramadol and could not resist the effect of the drug. Others say he could have been killed and deposited at Coconut Island by his killers. Administrative officers were contacted and the corpse was taken to the cemetery for burial.

Man butchers wife for alleged infidelity, succumbs to mob justice

A man whose name The SUN could not get at press time is said to have butchered his wife, by name Vanella Ingweri, on grounds of alleged infidelity.

The incident happened on Saturday, May 10, 2025 around the maternity area in Bonadikombo, Mile 4 Limbe.

According to reports, the man has a child with the woman and later travelled abroad for work. Back there in Gabon, he got news of his wife’s infidelity.

The SUN learnt that upon his arrival to Cameroon few months later, he kept on monitoring his wife’s movements, and later decided to get even.

As fight between the couple ensued, reports say an elderly man who was returning from the farm saw it from a distance and came to rescue the woman but to no avail. The now high tempered husband used machetes to severely injure the woman.

At this point, neighbours were alerted and informed the police. Before the police could appear at the scene, the angry mob had tortured the said man severely.

The woman was rushed to hospital while the man was apprehended and taken to Limbe Central police station.

While at hospital, the woman breathed her last. Her remains is currently at the mortuary pending burial arrangements. The SUN gathered that the husband also gave up the ghost later and his remains are also deposited at the Limbe Regional Hospital mortuary
