The days ahead will be gloomy for illegal occupants of state houses and lands in Meme Division. The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlin, has maintained that things will never be the same again regarding the illegal occupation of state property under his jurisdiction of command.
According to a communiqué No:-G 39/C/11/SP/ of 15th May,2017 titled Census of occupants of State Houses and Land in GRA Kumba, and copied the Minister of State Property, Land Tenue and Survey, which The SUN procured, the SDO insist that “ within the context of the National Census of Occupants of State Houses and Lands as instructed by the Minister of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure,…he has the honour to request all occupants of state property (houses and Lands) and the Government Residential Area, GRA, to come along with their respective documents (Allocation Letters, Current Pay Slips, Purchase Agreement etc) to the Divisional Delegation of State Property, Survey and Land Tenure on or before the June 16, 2017, failure to do so will lead to immediate eviction”.
The SUN gathered that many petitions have inundated the office of the Ministry of State Property, Survey and Land Tenure from all angles with the Bafaws toping the chart about the illegal grabbing of the land at the GRA Up station in Kumba; from the District Hospital area to the SDO’s residence by successive civil administrators that have passed worked in the Division.
The then Director of the Government Bilingual Teachers Training College, Tambo Tingwa Georges disclosed during a graduation ceremony that the land hosting the college that was earmarked for the Department of Education under the University of Buea had been “sold” to strange individuals making it difficult for the school to expand in terms of infrastructural. Notables of the Bafaws in Kumba led by Senator Nfon V.E Mukete as Paramount ruler have equally complained bitterly about the land grabbing phenomenon at the GRA in Kumba. They expressed regret that their land is been “sold” to individuals without their knowledge and consent. Earlier, some Bafaw notables had in a chat with THE SUN forewarned that they pity those buying land at the GRA without their knowledge and that they will come a time when all of them will be evicted.
During the contact tour to services in Kumba by the SDO, he noticed that land grabbing and illegal occupation of state houses has been the order of the day in Meme Division. He was even more surprised that the Divisional Delegate of State Property, Survey and Land Tenure for Meme couldn’t give a clear cut answer on who is who as concern the occupation of State Houses and Land.
