District Chairpersons and Deputy Mayors of the Social Democratic Front, SDF in Kumba have noted that their non participation in the 45th edition of the National Day celebrations in the country does not mean they are seceding.
They revealed this information on May 9 during an interview with pressmen in Kumba.
According to the SDF District Chairperson of Kumba III, Rufus Bigda Oum the decision to boycott 20th May celebrations comes on the heels of the poor handling of some socio-political issues in the country.
‘The SDF is not saying that we should secede, but that a more careful attention should be paid to another part of the nation that came to a voluntary agreement and that a federal structure is the best system to guarantee that everybody in his own sphere is comfortable.’
He was corroborated by the 1st Deputy Mayor of Kumba II, Promise Chai who stated ‘the SDF never opted for the division of this country, what we have is that we should go for federation and we have cited many examples around the world and they are succeeding, why don’t they think that we can try it in Cameroon and succeed.’
They further noted that the crisis in the country would not have been aggravated as it is now if the government would have listened to the advice on federalism from other political parties.
Meanwhile the 1st Deputy Mayor of Kumba I, Raphael Tanyi like the District Chairman of Kumba II, Martin Sigha lauded the decision of their party National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi calling on them to boycott National Day celebration nationwide.
To them it is a sign of unity that shows that every Cameroonian feels a pinch of the current crisis that is rocking the two English Regions of the country. Adding that since Cameroon is a united country as such there is no reason why one part of the country should be celebrating while another is not.
The local leaders further promised to implement their National Chairman’s decision in their sphere of competence.
