This was during a one day seminar organized by the Meme Divisional Delegation of Communication, to commemorate the 2017 edition of World Press Freedom Day on May 3.
The seminar took place at the Kumba City Council hall focused on Journalism and image building, newsgathering, treatment and dissemination and the role of the journalist in the fight against corruption. It had as resource persons the Communication Officers of CDC and CONAC, the National Vice President CAMASEJ and senior editorialist of the state media, Bernard Eko.
According to the Meme Divisional Delegate of Communication, Cynthia Moloua Mbu there is a dire need for training, reasons why this year the delegation decided to include a seminar as part of the celebration.
She noted that journalists need to upgrade their skills reason why the seminar is aimed at educating journalists on how they can combat corruption as they execute their duties, sharpening their writing skills and creating a good image for themselves.
Vices such as the collection of ‘gombo’ at the end of events, publishing unverified facts, receiving bribe to protect or tarnish the image of an individual and using the media as means to fight their opponents were highly condemned and enlisted as major acts that paint a negative image of a journalist in our society today.
