As the 2025 presidential fever is on in the country, the Speaker of the National Assembly has called on Cameroonians to exercise restraint, act responsibly and with patriotism. “We must not forget that Cameroon will continue to exist after October 2025 and would need the same stakeholders to overcome present and future challenges”, he stated.

He was speaking last June 10, 2025 while opening the June ordinary session of the National Assembly as Cameroon’s Parliament opened in Yaounde.

The House Speaker of the country’s Lower House of Parliament added that “besides, we are all duty bound, in our respective capacity, to ensure the October 2025 presidential election is conducted in a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The October 2025 poll would afford us another opportunity to showcase Cameroon’s ingrained capacity to organise major events, including the organisation of elections. The October 2025 presidential election would also afford our country the opportunity to assert the political maturity of Cameroonians and further solidify Cameroon’s democratic base.”

Hon. Cavaye Yeguie said, “having a good turnout in the October presidential election constitutes a major challenge for Cameroon to overcome. Besides, a good turnout in the October presidential election will serve as a template for voters’ civic responsibility and mass political participation. However, only those duly enrolled in the electoral register are eligible to vote. That is why I am exhorting fellow Cameroonians of voting age to seize the opportunity given to them by law to massively get enrolled in the electoral register and be eligible to perform their civic duty at the appropriate time.”

The Speaker also called on potential voters to get valid national identity cards, since that is indispensable for getting enrolled in the electoral register. He tasked them to “take advantage of the new measures taken by the Head of State, precisely his instructions that the appropriate authorities should simplify the process of issuing national identity cards to Cameroonians. This also avails me of the opportunity to salute the instructions of the Head of State as well as innovations introduced by authorities in charge of issuing national identity cards. I hereby extend my hearty congratulations to the said authorities. It is by virtue of innovations introduced that the task of issuing identity cards is no longer herculian”, he said.
