The quarter head of Bonaberi in Limbe III Subdivision Fako Division, South West Region, Guroty Stephen has raised an alarm on the ‘disastrous’ fishing practiced by Chinese fishermen along the Atlantic Coast in Limbe.
Addressing the issue to the Divisional Officer for Limbe III, Epolewane Verkline last February 19, 2020, the quarter head stated that “We are hereby imploring the government to check the excesses of the Chinese vessels or our resourceful sea will be depleted and devoid of fish in the nearest future.”

Guroty Stephen maintained that “They know the consequences and jail term penalties; therefore they’re doing this deliberately.”
He equally held that “Worst still the Chinese vessels constitute nuisance in the sea by destroying the nets of the artisanal fishermen. Some fishermen can no longer fern for their family as all their nets have been destroyed by reckless, violent and wicked Chinese vessels.”
His peer of Dockyard quarter, Bamigele Isaac Irende added that Chinese fishing trawlers have remained a thorn in their flesh.
“A lot of our fishermen have been rendered handicap because of the activities of these fishing trawlers. The cost of these fishing nets is so high due to global economic recession which has made it totally impossible for those whose nets have been destroyed to buy new ones. We are therefore pleading that you use your good office to call these people to order” Bamigele Isaac beckoned.
