Meme workers get set for 140th Intl Labour day celebration

The stage is getting set for the celebration of the 140th International Labour Day in Meme Division, South West Region this Friday, May 1, 2026.

The esplanade of the Kumba City Council grandstand hosting this year’s celebration is already set with workers drawn from the private and public sector representing different trade unions already making their entrance into the grandstand.

Mayors of Konye and Mbonge, Barrister Dr Musima Georges Lobe and HRH Daniel Mokambe respectively

The event, according to stakeholders promises to be unprecedented, going by the dignitaries who have already answered present.

The Mayors of Kumba I – III, Mbonge and Konye, traditional rulers, with the remarkable presence of HRH Chief John Kona Makia, traditional ruler of Malende – Kumba and South West Regional Coordinator of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, as the Chief of Kake II, Chief Dr Ndome Samuel Mukwelle, have already answered present.

To feature in the programme amongst others will be the award of labour medals to meritorious workers in the Division.

This year’s celebration is placed under the theme, “Social Dialogue and Decent Work, factors of Peace, National Cohesion and Economic Development of the Company”.
