MINEPAT boss receives new Afreximbank President, Cameroonian born, Dr Georges Elombi

The new President of Afreximbank, Dr Georges Elombi was received in audience recently, by the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, in his cabinet in Yaounde. The audience served as a platform to reinforce the partnership cooperation between Cameroon and the PanAfrican financial institution.

During the exchange that lasted over two hours, the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development expressed on behalf of  government, congratulations for Dr Elombi’s brilliant appointment at the head of Afreximbank last June 2025, during the 32nd Annual Assembly of the Bank in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Cameroonian born Jurist entered Afreximbank in 1996, and his examplary ascension to the top of the institution speaks well of him.

The two men discussed on numerous projects funded by Afreximbank in Cameroon among which is the project of rural electrification in Cameroon by photovoltaic to the tune of FCFA 60,6 billion with a new installment of FCFA 36,6 billion under negotiation.

In 2024, the bank gave a budgetary support of FCFA 130 billion to the Ministry of Finance and in June 2025, it equally guaranteed funding for local banks worth FCFA 200 billion. The bank’s accumulated operations in Cameroon are estimated at FCFA 326 billion.

It equally raised projects being financed at the moment such as SoDeCoton, Pamol or the construction of a futuristic complex integrating a Sub-Regional Hospital Center of 500 rooms dedicated to the treatment of rare pathologies, a hotel of 200 rooms and sub-regional office of Afreximbank worth FCFA 250 billion.

Discussions were also on the funding of 210 million Euros dedicated to the buying of petroleum products for SONARA in Limbe, South West Region of Cameroon.

At the end of their discussion, Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey promised government’s support to Dr Elombi’s mandate and its will to continue operations with his Institution.
