With just under three months left to the presidential election in Cameroon, Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, convened a high-level strategic consultation meeting with CPDM elites from Fako and Meme Divisions on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Buea. The closed-door deliberations come as part of an intensified political strategy to cement the ruling party’s dominance in divisions historically eyed by opposition parties.

The meeting, which lasted several hours focused on fine-tuning campaign strategies and galvanizing local party structures to ensure a landslide win for the incumbent, President, Paul Biya, in the October 12 polls.

The PM’s initiative closely followed a similar meeting held earlier in the week by Prof. Nalova Lyonga, Head of Fako’s Permanent Divisional Delegation of the CPDM Central Committee.

Speaking after the Buea session, Prof. Nalova Lyonga echoed the mood of confidence and strategy. “We’re not only planning to win; we are planning to win better than we ever have,” she stated. According to her, various methods including digital outreach and door-to-door campaigns will be employed to reach all demographics. “We are deploying all tools available. This is a big fight, but one we are prepared for,” she declared.

On his part, Kumba City Mayor, Greg Mewanu, stressed the PM’s deep-rooted understanding of Meme Division and the South West Region. “He’s one of us and understands the political dynamics here. Since 2020, we’ve been actively engaging in development projects, not just for our image, but to reflect the vision of President Paul Biya. These projects are clear testimonies of state support, and they make our campaign easier,” he said.

Mewanu highlighted ongoing efforts to mobilize registered militants and sympathizers to collect their voter cards. “We are confident. Kumba is already 95% in the hands of President Paul Biya,” he assured.

Mayor Mbwaye Eposi Florence of Limbe I Council added her voice, pledging complete support. “Limbe I is ready. We’ve assured the Prime Minister of a 100% turnout for the CPDM candidate,” she said.

Dr. Ndoh Bertha Bakata, representing Meme Division, emphasized unity and the strength of the CPDM’s national presence. “We are everywhere, in every nook and cranny of this country. The CPDM is the most structured party, and our candidate remains the most credible. Our objective is a resounding victory,” she stressed. She further pointed to visible development projects, including a newly established gas plant, as direct dividends of the President’s leadership. “With the PM, and other high-ranking officials hailing from Meme, there is every reason for our division to deliver big,” she concluded.

As the countdown to the October 12 election continues, the ruling CPDM appears to be tightening its grip on strategic divisions of the South West Region. With the Prime Minister leading from the front, confidence is high among party faithful that the South West will once again deliver for President Paul Biya. However, with rising opposition ambitions and voter unpredictability, the outcome will ultimately depend on the efficiency of ground-level mobilization in the coming weeks.
