Regional Hospital Limbe gets new board chair, Chief Ilambo Pius Mokoye

Meritorious staff rewarded

In a twin ceremony last May 8 at the premises of Regional Hospital Limbe RHL, hospital management and staff together with the administration gathered to receive the new Chairperson of the Hospital Management Committee as well as hand awards to deserving staff for their outstanding efforts in 2024.

While chairing the double event, the representative of South West Governor, Head of Division for Economic, Social and Cultural Affairs, Mbembe Mbong Vanessa said “Although financial and material resources, sophisticated equipment are important in production, the greatest resource capable of producing performance and transforming such investment into positive results remain human resource.” She praised the devoted nature of the management and staff of the RHL as well as commended the Director of the hospital, Dr. Arreneke Nyenti for coming up with the yearly recognition, which she maintains is a positive pointer to good work. While congratulating the recipients, Mbong urged them to continue giving much to society, as they operate in the spirit of hard work, determination and commitment to serve the State.

Presenting the awards to recipients, the Director of RHL, Dr. Arreneke Nyenti justified the initiative, drawing inspiration from the bible and existing theories on the need for motivation at the work place. The awards were in 23 categories, some special awards as well as some personal awards from goodwill ambassadors. The recognitions cut across such as leadership, communication, planning etc skills, in categories like Chiefs of service, specialist nurses, general practitioners, medical imaging, Pharmacy, cleaning, psychosocial support among others.

One of the recipients, Dr. Ekongolo Essadi Marie Christine (Pulmonologist) who received several prizes including that of best Communication skills reacted to The SUN that, “I really want to thank everyone who thought of me. This prize is not just mine, it is dedicated to everybody. You cannot be a good communicator, a leader without people around you who understand you. So I dedicate all these prizes to the entire personnel of this hospital.”

Also speaking at the event, the representative of the City Mayor of Limbe, Director of General Affairs, Gardidien Kombe urged the beneficiaries to continue in the spirit of hard work, dedication and respect for hierarchy. He celebrated his boss, Paul Efome who was Chairperson of the Hospital Management Committee for three years, and who contributed his part in the modernisation of the RHL.

New hospital chair takes charge

Chief Ilambo Pius Mokoye was announced to be the new Chair, replacing Limbe City Mayor in the position.

While making the big announcement, the representative of the president of the South West Regional Assembly,  Commissioner of Health at the Assembly, William Elangwe Itoe said Chief Ilambo has what it takes to finely manage the hospital, given his wealth of experience in the sector. “The RHL is very lucky to have him as its Chairperson at this special moment”, he said.

Chief Ilambo will amongst other things; assess and approve the execution of the hospital plan of action, assess hospital performance (consultation, deliveries, surgical operations, hospitalisations, deaths and causes, hospital sanitation, community participation, revenue etc), identify problems in the hospital and determine realistic measures to solve them etc.

The new hospital chair, Chief Ilambo while taking over pledged to do his possible best for the continuous improvement of the hospital. He celebrated his predecessor for his strides.

“I know that with the powerful, very dynamic Director, we are going to achieve the goal…we will do everything to keep the hospital’s image as the leading hospital in the region”, he said.

The event was also attended by the Regional Delegate of Public Health for South West, Dr. Filbert Eko, the representative of Mayor of Limbe I amongst others.
