A campaign to facilitate payment of fees by students of the University of Yaounde I via Mobile Money, MoMo was organised last September 23, 2025 at Amphi300 of the Ngoa Ekelle campus. A new era has opened for Cameroonian universities: no more long queues and tedious payments! Thanks to the partnership between the University of Yaoundé I and Mobile Money Corporation (MMC), students can now pay their university fees in seconds via MoMo.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director General of Mobile Money Cooperation, Alain Claude Nono told the students that “Mobile Money is henceforth available on campus.”

He rejoiced that ‘‘speed, security and transparency: this innovation places digital technology at the heart of the academic experience, for the benefit of students and institutions alike. It is a digital solution set up by Mobile Money Corporation (MMC) in partnership with the University of Yaoundé I that allows students to pay their academic fees (pre-registration, partial or full fees) directly via MoMo, securely and with an instant digital receipt.’’
Representing the Rector of the University of Yaoundé I at the occasion was the Vice Rector in charge of Teaching, Prof Jean Njoya, who welcomed the initiative as a mark of a unique step in the modernisation of the University.
He said the coming of MoMo to the University contributes to the digitalisation of university services, facilitating financial inclusion for all students, even those far from major cities, increased transparency and traceability in the management of university fees, aligns with their vision of modernization and digital governance.
Alain Claude Nono explained to reporters that ‘‘the benefits for students are; speed: Payment is instantaneous from a phone, whether it’s pre-registration, a partial payment or full payment of fees, simplicity: the student accesses the direct link of the University of Yaoundé I https://uy1.univpay.cm and enters his or her registration number. They can also go to the general link univpay.cm to choose their university. Accessibility: available everywhere, even outside Yaoundé. Security: Digital receipt available and verifiable at any time. Zero stress: no more queuing or looking for change. Full traceability: detailed reports by student (name, number, course, amount, academic year). Guaranteed authenticity: secure digital student receipts, verifiable in real time. Modernised management: dynamic dashboards, collections by faculty/department, monthly statistics and disbursement reports. Reduced risk of fraud and handling of funds.’’
