Charity or Scam?: Fake Philo donors on the run, duping innocent victims

By Engah Peter Parkers

A group of individuals posing as charitable donors, offering gifts to orphans and widows, has been exposed for their alleged involvement in a massive online scam. The group, which has been using churches to advertise their activities, has been luring innocent people into investing in their online gaming platform, known as MDB, with promises of unusually high returns.

According to sources, the group’s modus operandi involves recruiting individuals to join their online platform, where they are promised returns of up to 100% on their investment. The scam begins with an invitation to join a WhatsApp group, where members are encouraged to invest in the online gaming platform. The group’s administrators, who pose as successful investors, share fake testimonials and screenshots of their supposed profits, luring in new recruits.

Once an individual invests, they are encouraged to watch videos and engage in online gaming activities. The more videos they watch, the more their investment appears to grow. However, when victims try to withdraw their profits, they are met with excuses and delays.

The victims of this scam include market women, bike riders, and many other vulnerable individuals who were lured into investing their hard-earned money in the hopes of making a quick profit.

Recently, the MDB platform became inaccessible, leaving many investors unable to access their accounts or withdraw their money. A woman popularly known as Pastor Euphreesia, a marketing manager with Multi Digital Broadcasting (MDB), a USA-based marketing and advertising company operating in Cameroon since February 2025, has been detained by authorities and is currently answering questions.

The group’s activities have been linked to several churches in the South West Region, where they have been using the pulpit to promote their scam. Authorities are urging members of the public who may have been affected by the scam to come forward and report their cases.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice. As the investigation continues, authorities are warning the public to be cautious of get-rich-quick schemes and to verify the authenticity of any investment opportunity before parting with their money.

The case highlights the importance of financial literacy and the need for greater awareness of online scams.
