The Director General of Elections at Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Dr. Essousse Erik, on Monday, March 02, 2026 made appointments at certain decentralized structures of ELECAM notably in the South West Region.

Of particular interest was the replacement of Findi Ewome Thompson, who was appointed Tiko Branch Head in January 2026. Mr. Findi Ewome has been transferred to Mbonge to replace Pollah Placate Tacham who is moved to Tiko.

In a petition by the Tiko Electoral District of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, party headed by Mbaku Teboh George, dated January 27, 2026, the party noted that Findi Ewome “happens to be the brother of Hon. Findi who is the parliamentarian of Fako East Constituency (comprising Limbe, Tiko and Muyuka) and by this we have the strong conviction that his transfer to Tiko is a well calculated strategy to come and work in favour of his brother” noting that “blood is thicker than water”.

Board Member, Governor intervene

While the SDF party in Tiko may be singing victory songs, the truth behind the story is that the appointment of Findi Efome as Tiko branch head met with stiff resistance from the South West ELECAM Board member, Dr. Tambe Tiku who took the matter into his hands.

Apparently, the appointment was proposed by the Regional Delegate of ELECAM for the South West without consultations. It is alleged that the Regional Delegate was a classmate to Hon. Findi, though The SUN Newspaper cannot independently confirm this affinity.

Dr. Tambe Tiku after also petitioning the Chairman and DG of ELECAM made a strong representation to the Governor of the South West Region, Okalia Bernard Bilai in the company of another ELECAM Board Member, former Governor Ejacke Mbonda. All parties were in agreement that the appointment of Findi Ewome to Tiko, his brother’s constituency was not fair and betrays ELECAM’s policy of fairness, neutrality and equality.

With the interventions of all these personalities, the SDF Tiko petition found full agreement and Dr. Essousse Erik had to proceed with the adjustments.

However, Findi Ewome’s situation though flagrant, may not be isolated as it has been seen in most cases that most ELECAM field staff are either proposed by CPDM bigwigs or administrators with strong CPDM affinities.

To Findi Ewome’s credit, he served as ELECAM Head in Limbe II subdivision during the last presidential election where the FSNC candidate, Issa Tchiroma won.

Tiko SDF wants Seven Polling Centres relocated

The Tiko electoral District of the SDF, is also calling for the relocation of some polling centres to bring them closer to the population and voters and where there is low security risks.

In a recent chat with the District Chairman, Mbaku Teboh George, accompanied by his district organizing secretary, Denis Munkefor, the party says it is drawing lessons from the 2020 municipal/legislative elections where the creation of polling centres very far from voters greatly disenfranchised most of their militants.

The party is proposing the following:

that Koke, Marte, Camp 11 & Camp 9 were initially independent polling stations which were merged in 2020 into one polling station located 10kms from their area to Bonako Polling Centres at Toll gate. The SDF says that Koke has a military base and therefore propose that a polling centre can be created at Marte Club to carter for the five polling stations.

Similarly, Moquo village, Mondoni Native and Modeka camp were independent polling stations that were merged in 2020 into one polling centre located seven kiliometres from their areas to Bonako polling centre (Tole Gate). SDF Tiko prays that a polling Centre be created at Government Health centre, Moquo.

The party is also requesting that a Polling Centre be created at Government School Mudeka Town where there is a police station.

The SDF party is also proposing that the Polling Centre located at the military check point in Missellele be relocated to government Primary School Missellele Town which shall constitute Missellele Rubber Camp Office, Keme camp, matute, Muanga, New Pongo because these areas have no security challenges.

Also the SDF wants polling stations at LAFCCOP and Mabelle, Mutengene to be relocated to govt health Centre, Mutengene as Polling Centres because LAFCCOP and Mabelle are located within the gendarmerie premises.

In continuation, the party says the Polling centre located at Govt bilingual School, Tiko be transferred back to Govt Primary School Likomba where it was initially located because GBHS Tiko is located on the outskirts of Likomba town with high risk of separatists’ threats.

Finally the SDF requests that the polling stations at Baptist School in Mutengene be brought back because it is closer to the population and voters, rather than sending it three kilometres away from their areas of residence.
