A spirit of unity, gratitude and renewed commitment marked a special Valentine’s Day celebration in Tiko as members of the Electrical Department Ex-Students branch, EE Light The World, paid a courtesy visit to the President General of the Ombe Old Students Association (OOSA), HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III.
The colourful yet brief ceremony which held recently at the Tiko Council Municipal Restaurant, brought together members of the OOSA National Bureau Executive and representatives from branches including Victoria, Mutengene, Tiko and Douala. The occasion was dedicated to presenting New Year wishes and gifts to the President General, who also serves as Mayor of Tiko Council.
EE Light The World, an affiliate branch of OOSA, was created in 2021 by a group of electrical technicians, both men and women who are alumni of Government Technical High School (GTHS) Ombe. What began with 40 members has steadily grown into a dynamic and organized branch playing a visible role within the association.
In his welcome address, the President of EE Light The World, Engineer John Esunge, expressed appreciation for the leadership of the President General and reaffirmed the branch’s commitment to supporting both OOSA and their alma mater. He highlighted that since its creation, the branch has grown “from strength to strength,” thanks to the dedication and solidarity of its members.

Engineer Esunge outlined the branch’s 2026 Plan of Action, which includes a planned visit to GTHS Ombe, particularly to the Electrical Engineering (EE) Workshop. According to him, the branch intends to carry out several developmental activities aimed at improving the learning environment for current students. He further announced that EE Light The World remains active in OOSA’s National Convention and Scholarship Scheme and is up to date with its financial contributions. “Our commitment to the school and to OOSA is unwavering,” he noted, adding that the branch will continue to support initiatives that promote excellence and technical advancement among students.

In his response, the President General of OOSA, HRH Dr. Peter Ikome Mesoso III, expressed heartfelt gratitude for what he described as a thoughtful and symbolic gesture, particularly on a day globally associated with love and appreciation.
He commended EE Light The World for their unity and sense of responsibility, emphasizing that such initiatives strengthen the bond between OOSA leadership and its branches. The President General also used the opportunity to address some concerns raised by members, particularly on issues of membership and organizational structure.
He disclosed that in the coming days, a circular would be released announcing the closure of registration, stressing that every bona fide member of OOSA must possess a valid membership card. This measure, he explained, is part of efforts to streamline the association’s records and enhance accountability.
Furthermore, he urged all branches to establish functional bank accounts to ensure transparency and better financial management. According to him, strong administrative foundations are essential if OOSA is to achieve its long-term vision.
Dr. Mesoso, himself an alumnus of the Electrical Department, reaffirmed his loyalty and dedication to the association. “As your leader and servant, I will do my best to take OOSA to a different level,” he assured members, calling on all OOSANS to remain united and focused on the association’s objectives.
The event also marked a significant milestone, as EE Light The World became the third branch to formally present New Year wishes to the President General, following similar gestures by the Tiko and Mutengene branches.
Amid feasting, camaraderie and renewed pledges of collaboration, the ceremony reflected the enduring values of solidarity and service that define OOSA. More than a symbolic exchange of gifts, the gathering underscored the association’s collective resolve to uplift its alma mater and strengthen ties among alumni.
As OOSA moves forward in 2026, the message from Tiko was clear: through unity, structured leadership and sustained commitment, the association is poised to scale greater heights.
