The Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, Engelbert Viang Mekala has urged stakeholders in the Division to work towards a massive mobilisation of youth and ensure a successful celebration of Youth Day on February 11. He was speaking in Limbe last January 23 as he chaired the first preparatory meeting ahead of the celebration.

As he opened the gathering, the Fako boss demanded the presence of all key stakeholders including Mayors, some of whom weren’t present at that time. He insisted that poor attendance during the preparatory meetings will automatically affect the general organisation of the celebration.

“When I took over office here, my first challenge was to organise Youth day. My predecessor chaired the first preparatory meeting and then I continued with the organisation till the d-day. I want to say that last year was a success but we want the event this year to be a very special one because I believe that we can do better than last year”, Mekala said.

He announced that Fako has been chosen to host the national launch of the Youth Week which will be done by Youth Affairs and Civic Education Minister in the days ahead.

“I want to see all the schools participate; from nursery, primary, secondary and higher institutions”, he pressed, maintaining that the celebration is not limited to pupils and students, but also, “All youth associations, bike riders, political associations…not necessarily a matter of age”.

In the course of the meeting, the organisation committee was set in place to propose activities to carry out and secure resources for such.

“The success of the organisation depends on the dynamism of the locality, elites etc”, the SDO said.

He reacted to the press at the close of the meeting that, “I am satisfied with the attendance and the meeting permitted us to set up various committees in charge of organisation and now we expect the various chairpersons to get to work to outline various activities to mark the celebration”.

The meeting was attended by the City Mayor of Limbe – Paul Efome, the Divisional Delegate of MINJEC in Fako, Divisional Officer of Limbe one, delegates, principals of schools among others.
