Gang of armed robbers dismantled, presented to the public in Kumba

Denizens of Kumba chief town of Meme Division South West can now sleep with all their ears and eyes closed following the dismantling of a gang of armed robbers by elements of the Kumba police corps. The three suspected criminals were presented to the public at Club No 1, a quarter in Kumba II Sub Division   along the  Cameroon street noted for harbouring harden criminals and drug consumers. They harden criminals were presented to the public on Thursday May 21, 2026,  following their arrest by security forces over alleged acts of vandalism targeting public infrastructure within the city.

According to security officials, the suspects are believed to be members of a gang involved in extracting underground electrical cables connected to the newly installed street light poles along the just-completed PDVIR road project linking Fiango to Buea Road, a major development project that has greatly transformed the facelift of the City of Kumba.

Reports indicate that the group allegedly spent several days removing the cables intended to power the street lights, after which they reportedly burnt the cables to extract valuable materials before selling the remaining iron components.

Present at the public presentation were the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO of Meme, Ntou’ou Ndong Chamberlain, the Divisional officer for kumba II, Edwin Nkenya Ngwana, the Kumba City Mayor , Gregory Ntemoyok Mewanu, the Mayor of Kumba II Council Chief Mbachu Jacob Kay, the Commissioner of the Kumba Central Police Station Mboudia Clément and his close collaborators and the cross section of the population of Kumba.

The City Mayor of Kumba, Gregory Ntemoyok Mewanu, used the opportunity to strongly condemn acts of vandalism against public property and called on the population to join hands in protecting development projects meant to improve the living conditions of the people of Kumba.

The Mayor further assured the population that he will personally follow up the matter to ensure that the suspects are duly prosecuted in accordance with the law and not released later on without facing justice.

At press time the suspected armed robbers were presented before the State Council for Meme Mbwagbor Peter, who  immediately  remanded them in prison custody at the Kumba principal prison awaiting trial.
