Kumba municipal police charged to check urban disorder

Some 20 newly recruited municipal police of the Kumba City Council have been tasked to fight against urban disorder in the city.
The instructions were given by the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme Division, Chamberlain Ntou’ou Ndong and the Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council, Victor Ngoh Nkele on October 24 while installing them at the Kumba City Council grandstand following three months of training.
Addressing the officers, the Government Delegate noted that the duties of a municipal police includes, among others, to curb urban disorder and congestion of vehicles in the municipality, to fight against bribery and corruption, to control stray animals, to recover local tax from recalcitrant tax payers and to ensure hygiene and sanitation in the metropolis.
Ngoh said the municipal police must take orders from his office as they execute their daily activities.
He called on the officers to treat members of the city with respect and honesty and to apply force only when necessary.
The government delegate warned them not to abuse the authority given to them through the practice of bribery and corruption as well as the extortion of money from city dwellers.
He told them to respect the laws governing their job and that failure to do so will result to dismissal.
Meme SDO on his part warned the officers not to compete with but work in collaboration the state police.
Ntou’ou Ndong equally instructed the municipal police to stamp out corruption among city council staff.
During the ceremony, the SDO awarded end of course certificates to four outstanding recruits among the 5 women and 15 men recruited.
