Life is gradually returning to normal in the Fiango and Three Corners neighbourhoods in Kumba following sporadic gunshots that lasted all through the night of Friday, July 27, 2018.
Reports hold that the prolonged shooting was as result of the fact that a military vehicle got stock in mud around Farm Road Street, in the Fiango neighbourhood in Kumba.
Another version has it that the Assistant Commissioner of the Kumba 1st District Police Station was attacked at his New-layout entrance and wounded.
The fear of any possible attack, military officers were deployed to guard the vehicle before it was removed.
Cases have been reported of city dwellers often stranded in town because of the gunshots. Most of them sought refuge in other calm areas of the town before returning to their homes the next day.
The same scenario applies to the Kumba Bureau Chief of The Post Newspaper, Maxcel Fokwen who was trapped in town and could not make his way to his New-layout residence. Fokwen however passed the night in a safe area before returning to his house the next morning when things were somehow calm.
Talking to some inhabitants of the Fiango neighbourhood, they disclosed that the night of Friday July 27, was the longest they have ever experienced.
They said they barely slept that night since they were trying to look for the best position to protect themselves and escape the success mission of any bullet.
At press time one could not confirm if any causality was recorded. Material losses were recorded as some bikes were reported to have been set on fire in Fiango.
