Militants of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) in Fako II Section, Muyuka Subdivision, gathered in large numbers at the Muyuka Council premises on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to commemorate the 41st anniversary of the ruling party in an atmosphere marked by political reflection, renewed commitment and strong declarations of loyalty to the party’s National President, President Paul Biya.

Celebrated under the theme, “Let us prepare to further consolidate the strength and position of the party behind the National President,” the anniversary brought together party executives, militants, sympathizers, youth and women’s wings, all united around messages of resilience, peace and preparation for future political contests. The event was presided over by the CPDM Fako II Section President, Honourable Findi Stanley Mokondo, who used the occasion to remind militants of the party’s long-standing political journey and its continued relevance in Muyuka despite the challenges the subdivision has experienced over the years.

Addressing party supporters, Honourable Findi Stanley Mokondo described the anniversary not merely as a ceremonial gathering but as an important moment of reflection on the party’s achievements and direction. He emphasized that for more than four decades, the CPDM has remained a symbol of peace, unity and development in Cameroon, particularly in Muyuka where security and socio-political challenges have tested the resilience of the population.

He praised militants for what he termed their courage and determination, especially in difficult times, noting that the party had continued to register electoral victories even under complex circumstances. According to him, the recent presidential election was one of the strongest demonstrations of the party’s rooted presence in Muyuka, where militants remained mobilized and committed to securing victory for the CPDM.

The Section President stressed that the repeated electoral successes of the CPDM are proof of the trust the population continues to place in the party. He noted that regardless of whether circumstances are difficult or peaceful, the party’s ability to emerge victorious in elections reflects its strong political foundation and national appeal.

He also called on militants to understand that belonging to the CPDM goes beyond wearing party uniforms, insisting that discipline, service to the people and commitment to peace must define every militant. Hon. Findi urged supporters to continue promoting social cohesion and development in Muyuka while encouraging young people to reject violence and embrace constructive engagement for the future of the subdivision.

Speaking to the press after the ceremony, Hon. Findi Stanley Mokondo said Muyuka had every reason to celebrate, particularly because the subdivision had remained resilient in preserving key sectors such as health, education and road infrastructure despite the crisis that has affected parts of the region. He described the anniversary as both a celebration of achievements and a strategic moment of political reflection, especially as the country moves into another important electoral cycle. The Member of Parliament pointed out that the current year and the next are politically significant, requiring militants to remain fully prepared and visible on the ground. According to him, the anniversary served as a strong signal that CPDM structures in Fako II remain functional, vibrant and ready to mobilize massively for upcoming elections at all levels.

The youth wing of the party also reaffirmed its commitment during the celebration. YCPDM Section President for Fako II – Muyuka, Oscar Akale Mukete, thanked young militants for their constant participation in party activities and encouraged them to remain attentive to the political orientation provided by senior party leadership. He described the CPDM as more than just a political organization, saying its existence over 41 years has coincided with important development strides in Cameroon. He urged the youth to prepare mentally and politically for forthcoming electoral responsibilities.

Women also played a prominent role during the anniversary, with WCPDM Section President, Enjema Adeline highlighting the strategic importance of women in sustaining the strength of the party in Muyuka. She described women as the foundation of both the family and the political structure, noting that their visible participation during the event was evidence of their commitment to party growth.

She further praised the leadership of President Paul Biya for opening more opportunities for women in public service and governance over the years, adding that women remain hopeful for even greater inclusion in national leadership in the future. She encouraged female militants to remain steadfast, assuring them that their dedication to the party would continue to bear fruit.

The celebration ended with the adoption of a motion of support by militants, sympathizers and supporters of CPDM Fako II Muyuka. In the motion, participants reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty to President Paul Biya, praised his leadership in maintaining peace, stability and national unity, and pledged continued mobilization behind the ideals of peace, discipline and democracy.

They also condemned violence, division and manipulation, while calling on the population of Muyuka to resist forces that threaten social cohesion and harmonious coexistence. The militants finally committed themselves to strengthening party structures in the subdivision and supporting the implementation of directives from the party’s national leadership.

The 41st anniversary celebration in Muyuka thus ended not only as a commemoration of the CPDM’s history, but as a renewed declaration of political readiness, unity and determination ahead of future national engagements.

The Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) Fako III Section in Buea has marked the party’s 41st anniversary with a powerful display of political strength and a renewed pledge of loyalty to its National President, Paul Biya. Meeting under the theme, “Let us prepare to further consolidate the strength and position of the party behind the National President,” militants and hierarchy alike used the occasion to strategize for the upcoming 2026 legislative and municipal elections.

Speaking during the celebrations, the CPDM Fako III Section President, Comrade David Mafani Namange, reflected on the four-decade journey of the party. He described Cameroon as a “rainbow nation,” a transformation he attributes largely to the CPDM’s policy of national integration. “When I was a child, more than five decades ago, you could easily identify Buea to the Bakwerians… Today, everyone is practicing ‘living together’,” Namange noted. He emphasized that while leadership is often met with the “economics of demand and supply”, where expectations often exceed resources, the party stands proud of its record in maintaining peace and foster togetherness.

The anniversary served as a platform for the party’s specialized wings to reaffirm their commitment to the 2035 emergence vision. On behalf of the Youth Wing (YCPDM), speakers highlighted the President’s focus on digital innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation as key tools in deterring illegal immigration and violence.

The YCPDM militants hailed the President for maintaining Cameroon as an “island of peace” despite security challenges in the Far North and the ongoing crisis in the North West and South West regions.

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Regina Wotany, the WCPDM Section President for Fako III, praised the “statesmanship” of President Biya. She emphasized that the women’s wing remains the “balm of Gilead” for the party, providing the emotional and organizational stability needed to sustain the CPDM’s dominance in Fako.

With the October 12, 2025, Presidential Election and the December 16, 2025, Regional Elections now concluded with CPDM victories, the focus has shifted entirely to the 2026 polls.

Mafani amange revealed that the party’s “secret” to success lies in its rigorous basic organ structure. “By the organization of the CPDM, we have to win all elections,” he stated confidently. He argued that if the executive members of the party’s basic cells remain united, the CPDM’s strategic depth makes it nearly impossible for the opposition to make inroads.

As the festivities concluded, the message from Buea was clear: Fako III remains a fortress for the CPDM, with its eyes firmly set on a clean sweep in the upcoming 2026 municipal and legislative contests.

There comes a point in the life of every nation when the question is no longer simply who won an election, but whether the country can continue pretending that an election has settled anything at all.

For Cameroon, that moment has arrived.

Paul Biya was declared the winner of the 12 October 2025 presidential election with 53.66 percent of the vote. His principal challenger, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, was awarded 35.19 percent. The Constitutional Council has spoken, and legally, that may be the end of the counting. But it cannot be the end of the argument.

Because a democratic mandate is not created merely by announcing a percentage.

Biya should step down because the 2025 election has failed the more important test: whether Cameroonians can reasonably believe that the result represents their freely expressed political will.

That is not a frivolous accusation. It is a question the authorities themselves have failed to answer convincingly.

The Truth Behind the Numbers

Cameroon’s electoral crisis is not just about manipulation, it is about mathematical cosmetics. By reporting results as percentages of a tiny, filtered subset of voters, the regime turns a nationwide boycott into a “landslide victory.”

In reality, the 2025 presidential poll reflects the collapse of national confidence in elections. The figures expose a government sustained by abstention, not endorsement.

The story of Cameroon’s 2025 presidential election is not written in the glowing percentages on government posters. It is buried in the silence of the 90 percent who refused to vote.

When the history of Paul Biya’s regime is finally written, statisticians will not save him. Numbers may not lie, but politicians do with numbers.

The first problem is the seductive simplicity of percentages.

A candidate can receive 53.66 percent of valid votes cast and still lack anything approaching a broad national mandate. The denominator matters.

Official figures conceal the depth of electoral non-participation, particularly in the conflict-affected North-West and South-West regions.

But an even more troubling problem emerges from the government’s own numbers.

While some divisions reported participation rates around 50–60 percent, others reported participation of 80, 90 and even 97 percent. More importantly, Biya’s margins increased dramatically in precisely those areas reporting extraordinary turnout.

This does by itself prove that ballots were fabricated. We should be intellectually honest about that. It raises a question that cannot responsibly be brushed aside: How did the divisions reporting the most extraordinary turnout become so decisive in producing Biya’s victory?

The numbers deserve an independent audit. And the burden of answering that question falls particularly heavily on a government that has controlled Cameroon for more than four decades.

The election was not fought on a level playing field

An election cannot be judged only by what happened when citizens entered polling stations. It must also be judged by what happened before election day. Who was allowed to compete? Who was excluded? Were institutions sufficiently independent? Could opposition candidates campaign freely? Could voters participate without intimidation? Could electoral complaints receive genuinely impartial consideration?

These questions matter because democracy is not simply the act of putting a ballot into a box. It is the existence of conditions under which citizens can make a meaningful political choice.

The 2025 election was conducted against a backdrop of deep institutional distrust and political exclusion. Among other controversies, prominent opposition leader Maurice Kamto was prevented from contesting after the Constitutional Council rejected his candidacy in favour of another candidate from the same party. We also recorded widespread perceptions of fraud and the violence that followed the election.

This is why the government’s preferred argument—that the Constitutional Council has declared Biya the winner—misses the point.

An institution can declare a result. It cannot manufacture public confidence in that result.

The most disturbing evidence is hidden inside the official numbers. Perhaps the most powerful challenge to the official result does not come from an opposition press conference. It comes from examining the numbers themselves.

When we put the Constitutional Council’s own divisional results and conduct a simple sensitivity test, it becomes clear that Biya stole the victory. When divisions reporting turnout above 90 percent were excluded, Biya’s lead narrowed considerably. When divisions above 80 percent were excluded, Tchiroma moved ahead. At a 70-percent threshold, the difference became even more pronounced in Tchiroma’s favour.

Again, this is not proof that every high-turnout division falsified votes. It is something more uncomfortable: The official national result appears unusually dependent on a relatively small group of divisions reporting exceptionally high participation.

In a functioning democracy, such a finding would trigger scrutiny, verification and transparent investigation. In Cameroon, we were instead given a declaration and expected to move on. We should not. The North-West and South-West cannot simply be statistical footnotes.

There is another reason why the 2025 result deserves extraordinary scrutiny: the conditions under which voting supposedly took place in Cameroon’s conflict-affected English-speaking regions.

For nearly a decade, the North-West and South-West have experienced armed conflict, displacement, insecurity, destroyed infrastructure and severe restrictions on ordinary civic life.

Yet the official electoral figures attribute substantial participation and decisive support for Biya in some of these areas.

That should automatically be labelled impossible. People can and did vote in conflict-affected communities, but the turnout was never massive, never!

But extraordinary claims require extraordinary verification. Where populations have been displaced and where insecurity has made ordinary movement difficult, the question is not merely how many votes were counted?

Where did those voters come from? Where were the polling stations? How many polling officials were present? How many voters actually signed the registers? How many polling-station results are independently available? Were the figures reconciled from the polling station upward?

These are basic questions of electoral credibility.

They are particularly important when the disputed figures are capable of determining who becomes president.

The aftermath made the legitimacy problem worse

If the election had produced an unquestioned result, Cameroon would today be discussing the country’s future under a newly renewed Biya presidency.

Instead, the country entered a period of post-election tension.

Tchiroma rejected the official outcome and claimed victory. Protests followed in several cities. Human Rights Watch reported that security forces used tear gas, water cannons and, in some cases, live ammunition against protesters. Reuters likewise reported that the disputed result triggered protests and clashes amid allegations of electoral irregularities.

This is where the government needs to understand the difference between legal authority and political legitimacy.

A government can possess the machinery of the state and still lack the confidence of a substantial part of the population.

It can command soldiers without commanding consent.

It can control institutions without controlling the national imagination.

It can win a legal battle and still lose the legitimacy battle.

And Cameroon cannot afford another seven years governed by that contradiction.

Biya’s greatest responsibility now is not to remain in power

Paul Biya has been president since 1982.

He has now been declared the winner of an eighth presidential term at the age of 92.

That fact should not be reduced to an argument about age. Age alone does not disqualify anyone from public office.

The deeper issue is what four decades of uninterrupted rule have done to political institutions.

A healthy democracy should be capable of producing leaders beyond one individual.

A healthy political system should not make the departure of one president appear synonymous with the collapse of the state.

A healthy republic should not require its citizens to choose repeatedly between the same ruler and instability.

After 44 years, Biya should understand that the most consequential political act of his presidency may now be knowing when to leave.

Stepping down is not surrender

There will be those who argue that asking Biya to step down amounts to disrespecting the Constitution.

That argument is too simplistic.

The Constitution is not an instrument for converting contested political power into permanent personal entitlement. Constitutionalism is ultimately about limiting power, protecting citizens and ensuring that government rests on lawful and legitimate authority.

The credibility of the 2025 election is seriously contested, and the responsible response is not to hide behind institutional formalities.

It is to confront the dispute.

That could mean an independent and transparent audit of electoral records. It could mean publication of polling-station-level results and electoral registers. It could mean credible investigation of disputed turnout figures. It could mean an inclusive political dialogue on the future of the country.

And if the evidence demonstrates that the announced result cannot be sustained, Biya should have the courage to relinquish power and allow a genuinely credible political transition.

That would not make him weak.

It would be statesmanship.

Cameroon needs an exit from the politics of permanent incumbency

The greatest danger is not that Cameroon changes its president.

The greatest danger is that Cameroon becomes convinced that presidents can never be changed through peaceful democratic means.

That belief is poisonous.

Once citizens conclude that elections cannot change governments, they eventually stop investing in elections. When institutional channels close, political frustration searches for alternative channels. When peaceful dissent is suppressed, anger does not disappear; it accumulates.

Cameroon has already seen enough of what happens when political grievances are allowed to deepen into conflict.

We do not need another cycle.

We need an exit.

And that exit should begin with the recognition that the presidency is not the personal property of Paul Biya, the CPDM or any political establishment. It belongs to the Cameroonian people.

The world should not confuse order with legitimacy

There is also a responsibility beyond Cameroon.

The international community must stop treating electoral declarations as sufficient evidence of democratic legitimacy.

International actors have often been tempted to prioritise stability over democracy. But there is a difference between a country being quiet and a country being stable.

A population can be silent because it is content.

It can also be silent because it is afraid.

Those are not the same thing.

Cameroon needs international partners willing to ask difficult questions about the credibility of the 2025 election rather than simply congratulating the declared winner and moving on.

The objective should not be to install one particular opposition politician in power.

It should be to ensure that Cameroonians—not electoral institutions captured by political interests—determine who governs them.

That distinction is crucial.

Biya’s final legacy is now in his hands

President Biya has governed Cameroon for more than four decades.

He can therefore leave office as the man who held onto power until the very end, presiding over another contested election and another period of repression.

Or he can leave as the leader who finally recognised that a country is greater than its president.

The choice is his.

But Cameroon cannot indefinitely survive on disputed mandates, institutional capture, political exclusion and the mathematics of electoral percentages.

The 2025 election has exposed something far more fundamental than a disagreement over numbers.

It has exposed a crisis of trust.

And trust cannot be restored by another presidential speech, another official communiqué or another declaration from another institution.

It requires accountability.

It requires transparency.

It requires institutional reform.

And above all, it requires political courage.

Paul Biya should step down.

Not because an opposition candidate claims to have won.

Not simply because Biya is 92.

Not merely because he has been president since 1982.

He should step down because Cameroon cannot build a credible democratic future on an election whose result remains deeply contested and whose official figures raise serious questions that have not been adequately answered.

If Biya truly believes that the people chose him, then he should welcome the scrutiny necessary to establish that choice beyond reasonable doubt.

If the numbers survive independent verification, the country should accept them.

If they do not, he should accept the consequence.

After 44 years in power, the greatest service Paul Biya can render Cameroon may be to prove that, finally, the republic is bigger than the man who has ruled it for most of its modern history.

Cameroon does not need another victory manufactured on paper.

It needs a government whose authority is believed by the people it governs.

And that begins with letting the people have the final word.

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) presidential candidate, Hon. Josua Osih, stated that the people have suffered enough under the CPDM government for 42 years. He made this remark on Saturday, September 27, 2025, during the official launch of the party’s campaign at the Grandstand in Bamenda, ahead of the October 12 presidential election.

At the campaign launch, Osih emphasized that the SDF has deep roots in Bamenda, and much of the freedom enjoyed in Cameroon today originated there, often at a great cost to people’s lives.

Osih noted that,

“Many years have passed, and while a lot has happened, no political force has effectively addressed the root causes of our problems in Cameroon.”

He noted that the crisis in the North West and South West Regions has lasted for eight years, stating,

“If we were in power, this situation wouldn’t have started. That’s why Biya must be voted out.”

Addressing the ongoing Anglophone crisis, Osih promised to end the violence in these regions.

“In the first 100 days of my presidency, we can achieve this. No other candidate knows these regions better than I do,”

he said.

He explained their plan for peace, emphasizing the need for open dialogue to address the political issues at the heart of the crisis.

“We need to discuss frankly to alleviate the suffering of the people,”

he added.

Osih proposed a referendum for a new social contract, which would include a federal constitution and a semi-parliamentary system. He believes this approach could resolve 70-80% of the issues raised by the crisis, with the remainder requiring strong leadership, leadership that he offers.

“I am confident in our solid socioeconomic program that can lift Cameroonians out of poverty. We will ensure affordable access to electricity, water, infrastructure, healthcare, and education for everyone,”

he stated.

Regarding National ID cards, Osih promised that the misery caused by the Biya regime would end if he is elected president. He vowed to issue ID cards within 24 hours and provide civil status documents free of charge.

Earlier, the North West Regional chairman of the SDF, Fongu Cletus Tanwie, urged the public to turn out and vote out the CPDM government. He described the region’s dire state due to Paul Biya and the CPDM, citing poor roads, unreliable electricity, and unsafe drinking water, claiming these issues will end as the CPDM’s time is running out.

Benjamin Fru Ndi, son of the late chairman Ni John Fru Ndi, recounted Osih’s role in establishing the GCE Board, sharing how he walked from Bali to Bamenda to advocate for its creation.

Other speakers included former SDF member of parliament Forbi Tchinda Simon and former Mayor of Bafut Langsi Abel. Mayor Langsi appealed to armed groups, urging them to allow people to vote rather than giving the incumbent an easy path to victory.

Tchinda Simon criticized Biya’s approach, stating that the government’s actions are only helping him maintain power.

Before the rally at the Bamenda Grandstand, Hon. Josua Osih paid tribute at Liberty Square, laying a wreath in memory of six people who died on May 26, 1990, when the SDP party was founded.

Says democracy, not disorder will win

By Ikome Christie-Noella Eposi in Buea

As Cameroon moves towards the October 12 Presidential Election, Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji has underscored the need for unity, vigilance, and civic responsibility. Addressing a high-level security evaluation meeting at the South West Governor’s office in Buea on Tuesday, September 23, the Minister stressed that democracy, not individual candidates, must be the ultimate victor of the upcoming polls.

Fresh from a similar tour in the Center and East Regions, Atanga Nji arrived in Buea for the third leg of his nationwide mission, which he said was carried out under the direct instructions of President Paul Biya. He was received by South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, alongside Senior Divisional Officers (SDOs), Divisional Officers (DOs), defense and security officials, and representatives of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM).

“The Head of State has made it clear; the October 12 election must be conducted in a peaceful and serene atmosphere. Preventive measures must be taken before, during, and after the polls,” Atanga Nji declared. He reminded participants that ELECAM remains the independent body responsible for organising elections, while his ministry and security services are tasked with guaranteeing the safety and credibility of the process.

-A call for responsibility and humility

In a speech that was both cautionary and exhortative, the Minister urged political actors to demonstrate maturity. “Candidates must recognise their true weight. If a party is only present in five divisions out of 58, or 30 subdivisions out of 360, it is unrealistic to expect victory,” he stated.

An overview of Minister Paul Atanga Nji in session with stakeholders during Tuesday’s evaluation meeting

He warned against reckless rhetoric and divisive behaviour, urging contenders to refrain from hate speech, tribalism, and intimidation. Instead, he encouraged them to use legal channels to address any electoral grievances. “No one should take the law into their own hands. Petitions should be channeled to the competent authorities,” he emphasised.

Atanga Nji also reminded candidates of their moral responsibility to serve as examples to the population. “Being a candidate alone is a mark of importance, but participation must go hand in hand with promoting national unity and cohesion,” he said.

-Security assurances and separatist crisis

Turning to the security situation in the South West Region, the Minister reassured the public that measures had been put in place to ensure stability. “The forces of law and order are on high alert. We are confident that the election will proceed without incident,” he told the gathering.

At the same time, he issued a stern warning to separatist fighters still operating in the bushes. “Break time is over. The Head of State has extended the greatest concession possible by offering the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) centers. Those who surrender are learning trades and rebuilding their lives. But those who persist are only working for Lucifer,” Atanga Nji declared bluntly.

He condemned attacks on schools, hospitals, churches, and public infrastructure, describing such acts as self-inflicted marginalisation. “When you burn classrooms, health centers, or block roads, you are hurting your own community. That is not marginalisation by others; it is Anglophones marginalising Anglophones,” he said.

The Minister also appealed to parents to take greater responsibility. “These fighters are not from Mars or Jupiter; they are our children. Parents must stop shielding them and instead encourage them to drop their weapons. No family should benefit from blood money,” he cautioned.

-The media and civil society’s role

Acknowledging the influence of journalists and civil society, the Minister called on them to play their roles responsibly. He highlighted ELECAM’s adoption of a code of conduct to guide candidates and political parties, while MINAT has prepared legal frameworks and observer guidelines to ensure transparency.

“The media must avoid amplifying hate speech and instead contribute to national cohesion. Observers and civil society actors must also respect their roles,” he added.

-Protecting Cameroon’s image

Throughout his address, Minister Atanga Nji repeatedly emphasised that Cameroon’s democratic process is “irreversible” and must be safeguarded. “Cameroon is Africa in miniature, a nation respected worldwide. We cannot jeopardise our unity and reputation because of the ambitions of a few,” he noted.

He further stressed that national institutions must be preserved and strengthened. “The election should not divide us. On October 12, democracy itself must be the winner,” he concluded.

The meeting ended with a closed-door strategy session involving SDOs, DOs, and security chiefs, aimed at fine-tuning operations to guarantee a hitch-free election.

As Cameroonians prepare to cast their votes in what has been described as “the mother of all elections,” the message from Buea was clear: peace, responsibility, and unity are non-negotiable pillars for a credible outcome

Rehabilitation of access roads, wharf extension and new maritime facilities said to be state priorities

By Ikome Christie-Noella Eposi in Buea

Tiko was in celebration on Friday, September 26, 2025, as Prime Minister,  Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, arrived for a high-profile working visit that blended politics with development.

Addressing a jubilant crowd at the port, the Prime Minister called on the people of Tiko to throw their support behind President Paul Biya in the upcoming presidential election, tying their loyalty to the progress being made on the town’s long-awaited port rehabilitation.

Chief. Dr. Dion Ngute hailed the progress and tied the projects directly to President Paul Biya’s vision of national development. In a remark that drew thunderous applause, he declared: “If you want me to remain Prime Minister, I will continue with this good work. What will you do? Will you vote for President Biya?”

PM Dion Ngute Addressing the Tiko Population during his working visit to the Tiko Port

For many in Tiko, his message resonated strongly. The rehabilitation of the port is not only a long-standing demand but also a lifeline for economic revival. By linking the success of these projects to continued political support, Dion Ngute positioned himself as both a messenger of the Head of State and a son of the South West with Tiko’s future close at heart. The visit marked a significant milestone in government’s drive to modernise Cameroon’s maritime infrastructure and rekindle Tiko’s long-lost economic vibrancy.

The Prime Minister was warmly received by the transitional management of the Port Authority of Limbe and other dignitaries before being briefed on ongoing projects designed to strengthen maritime operations and improve trade logistics. At the heart of the efforts are five priority projects: rehabilitation of the three-kilometre access road to the port, repair and extension of the Tiko wharf, expansion of the Idenau quayside terminal, installation of maritime signalling equipment at Bota, Idenau and Tiko, and construction of a medical centre at Bota. Reports show the road works, managed by Exxon Synergy and SOSECO, are already 46.31 percent complete.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the port rehabilitation was more than an infrastructural facelift, it was a lifeline for Tiko’s youth and future. He expressed optimism that the projects would create employment opportunities and restore the pride of the town, which historically thrived on its port, the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), and its airport. He also hinted at the need for eventual rehabilitation of the airport to complement the port’s revival

The General Manager of the Port Authority of Douala, Cyrus Ngo’o reinforced this vision, describing the projects as part of a nationwide modernisation plan. With an investment of FCFA eight billion, the initiative aims to reposition secondary ports, including Tiko, Bota and Idenau, as vital hubs for economic activity. Beyond restoring Tiko’s relevance, the projects are expected to attract large-scale investment, improve trade efficiency, and create a strategic financial reserve for the Limbe port through the development of over 1,500 hectares of industrial and logistical space.

“This project is not just about infrastructure, it is about positioning our secondary ports as catalysts for economic growth and competitiveness in the region,” he explained.

For the local population, the visit was not just about projects but also about long-awaited relief. Mayor of Tiko, HRH Chief Peter Ikome Mesoso III, welcomed the developments, recalling Tiko’s natural depth that once allowed the docking and offloading of heavy ships, including car carriers. He described the rehabilitation as proof of government’s renewed attention to the town’s potential. “If these works are pursued to completion, hundreds of our youth will find employment and Tiko will once again stand tall,” he said, while also appealing for the rehabilitation of the Tiko airport to fully harness the town’s strategic location by land, sea and air.

Mayor Mesoso assured the Prime Minister of Tiko’s loyalty to President Biya, noting that the people of Tiko have seen their long-standing demands begin to materialise. “The step you are taking today gives me courage for my people to believe I have been telling them the truth,” he said, adding that the crowd’s massive turnout reflected their appreciation and support for the Head of State.

For Tiko, the port works symbolise more than just infrastructure, they represent the rebirth of an economic artery that has been dormant for decades. For the government, the projects are both a developmental milestone and a strategic rallying point for political support as the nation edges closer to election. As Dr. Dion Ngute puts it, the works will “change Tiko forever” and restore opportunities for its development. According to the PM, the completion of the port projects would not only change the face of Tiko but also provide critical employment opportunities for its people. “By the end of this work, this place will be completely different, and many of our youths will gain opportunities,” he assured.

With construction underway and optimism high, the people of Tiko are once again daring to dream of prosperity, confident that their port will soon reclaim its place as a vital gateway to Cameroon’s economic future.

After storming Ndian Division during the pre-campaign period, to obtain ancestral blessings and sell his presidential vision to his kith and kin few days ago, the presidential hopeful for the Social Democratic Front SDF party, Hon Joshua Osih is making significant outings ahead of October 12. Against all odds, the fearless SDF Chieftain was in Bamenda, North West Region to officially launch his presidential bid, on Saturday, September 27. Osih had maintained that he will launch his campaign at the SDF’s place of birth and that has been attained.

It is no secret that the North West and South West regions are almost a no-go area for a number of candidates, (pertaining to the now nine-year armed conflict still ongoing in the regions) but to Osih, charity begins at home, with him feeling all calm and confident in areas his contemporaries dread.

Osih launches campaign in Bamenda

The SDF Chairman was received with songs and dance in Bamenda, after which he held an open campaign rally, selling the party’s vision and stating why it is imperative for him to be entrusted with the destiny of the nation in the days ahead. From Bamenda, Osih’s next destination was Kumba in the South West region, which is also labelled a red zone in line with the ongoing armed conflict.

-Kumba endorses Joshua Osih

The electorate of Kumba, joined  members and sympathisers of the SDF to endorse Hon Joshua Osih, presidential candidate of the 2025 presidential elections.

The endorsement was done during the SDF presidential election campaign that took place at the PS school field Fiango, Kumba, Sunday October 28, 2025.

Addressing members and sympathisers of the party in Kumba, Osih unveilled his manifesto which is “let’s rescue Cameroon together”, for SDF  remains “The Solution” for Cameroon, which has been under the yoke of poverty, under development, and corruption for 43 years.

Osih disclosed that his first 100 days in office have have a multiplier effect, as he  will handle the ongoing anglophone crisis, accelerate the implementation of a Federal system of government, create employment opportunities, guarantee free health care to every Cameroonian, guarantee free education and cause the amendment of the constitution, and the electoral code.

He disclosed that his choice for Kumba, for the second day of his campaign, wasn’ t an error. Apart from the fact that he is a K- Town Boy, Kumba happens to be the party’s Regional headquarters and a strong hold of the party in the South West Region. SDF presidential candidate insisted on the need to vote and protect the votes, shun lockdown calls and come out en masse on polling day and cast their votes with the pink ballot paper.

Welcoming the over 6000 members and sympathisers of SDF, the  Kumba II Electoral District Chairman, Chia Promise, while decrying the fact that ELECAM is still feet dragging to issue voters cards to members of the party, assured the SDF presidential candidate that Kumba is ready to offer SDF to the candidate with 100% votes come October 12, 2025. The South West Regional Organising Secretary went ahead to assure the SDF presidential candidate that all has been put in place to ensure that all polling stations in the Region have polling agents.

The South West Regional Chairman of the Party, HRM Chief John Kona Makia said all is set for a resounding victory for the party come October 12, 2025.

The ground breaking campaign in Kumba started with a church service at PCC Kumba Mbeng where the SDF candidate and his delegation received benediction from God.

The SDF presidential candidate made a stop over in Konye, where he received traditional blessings.

The Kumba grand rally was punctuated with traditional and cultural dances.

In a high-stakes rally aimed at galvanizing the ruling party’s base, Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, while addressing CPDM sympathisers at the South West Regional Launch of Campaigns for the October 12 Presidential election, stressed on the fact that the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul Biya has the interest of the South West Region at heart. He declared that re-electing Biya is the only way for the South West Region to safeguard its privileges and continued development.

The declaration was made before a mammoth crowd of Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) sympathisers and militants at the South West Regional Launch of Campaigns, held at the Independence Square in Buea, Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Addressing the fervent supporters, PM Dion Ngute positioned the upcoming presidential election as a critical choice between preserving hard-won gains and facing an uncertain future. “Politics is a game of interest, and President Biya has the interest of the South West Region at heart,” the Prime Minister stated emphatically.

He presented a catalogue of the region’s current advantages as direct fruits of President Biya’s commitment. These include its strong representation in the government, the National Assembly, and the Senate, as well as major infrastructure projects like the Kumba Gas Plant. Dion Ngute argued that these advancements would be jeopardized if anyone else were to win the election.

Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, issued a stark warning to the people of the South West Region: re-electing President Paul Biya on October 12 is the only way to safeguard the region’s privileges and continued development, while a vote for any other candidate would have “disastrous consequences.”

“The region will cease to benefit from the privileges and development advances it currently enjoys if Biya does not win the presidential election,” he cautioned, framing the election as a referendum on the region’s prosperity.

-SONARA relocation rumours dismissed

In a move to quell rising regional anxieties, the Head of Government firmly dismissed rumours that the National Oil Refinery, SONARA, is slated for relocation. Pointing to the ongoing reconstruction of sections devastated by a fire incident in 2019, he asserted that the facility remains a cornerstone of the region’s industrial infrastructure.

“He said the very fact that construction work has begun on parts of the refinery that caught fire in 2019 is proof that it remains a regional asset,” the PM told the crowd, offering reassurance about the government’s commitment to maintaining key assets within the region.

Looking ahead, Dion Ngute promised that further development was in the pipeline. He highlighted intensified plans for the Limbe Deep Seaport, the construction of the Bekoko-Idenau road, and the development of Tiko Airport as evidence of the government’s continued focus on the South West.

-Defending Biya’s age and fitness

Responding to persistent criticism about the 92-year-old President’s age and fitness for another term, the Prime Minister dismissed the claims as unreasonable. In a colourful analogy aimed at connecting with the agrarian community, he asked, “Those of you who are cocoa farmers, do you cut down a cocoa tree because it is old?” The crowd roared back with a resounding “No! No!”

He further elaborated on his role, stating, “President Biya has made me his legs, so that where he cannot go, I would go,” positioning himself as a direct extension of the President’s authority and reach.

-A call to action, strategy for renewal

Echoing the Prime Minister’s urgent call, Senator Nfor Tabetando, Interim Regional Delegate of the CPDM South West Permanent Delegation, declared it was time for the people of the region to honour the numerous motions of support they had previously sent, calling on President Biya to run again.

Senator Tabetando said Paul Biya had played his part by responding to their call; thus, the ball is now in their court to ensure he enjoys a landslide victory on election day.

The Senator urged CPDM elites and campaign committees to “spare no effort” and “leave no stone unturned” in taking Biya’s campaign message to every household. He also alerted that, “The South West is a CPDM stronghold, but we should not rest on our laurels. No two elections are the same.”

The message of a renewed, grassroots-focused campaign was a central theme of the launch. Professor Elvis Ngole Ngole, Director of the CPDM Academy, outlined a dual-pronged strategy designed to be more inclusive and dynamic. The plan prioritises aggressive social media outreach to win over young voters and a traditional door-to-door approach to ensure no voter is left behind.

Party insiders confirm that the campaign is designed to give a fresh feel to the CPDM’s message, emphasising inclusivity and a direct connection with the electorate.

As the campaign enters its final stretch, the CPDM has made its position clear: for the South West Region, the path to continued development runs directly through the re-election of President Paul Biya, presenting voters with a choice they frame as one between guaranteed progress and potential peril.

Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) Fako elites on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, marched across the streets of Limbe to express their gratitude through a motion of support to Fako Senior Divisional Officer (SDO), to H.E. President Paul Biya, for facilitating the completion of salary arrears owed CDC workers.

Chanting songs, the militants expressed joy to President Paul Biya, for his fatherly love towards Cameroon Development Cooperation (CDC) workers. They opined that the salary arrears are timely and they will make maximum use of the money.

Speaking during the brief event, Fako SDO, Engelbert Viang Mekala thanked the elites for their prompt reaction to President Paul Biya through a motion of support endorsed by the Head of the CPDM Permanent Divisional Delegation(PDD) for Fako, Prof Pauline Nalova Lyonga.

Hon. Findi Stansley speaking during the event

“We all know what CDC workers were going through, the challenges they have been facing. I remember in August they were complaining and expressing their worries. They didn’t know how they will send their children back-to-school this academic year” Viang Mekala said.

He assured the militants that he will transmit the motion of support immediately to the appropriate quarters.

“We want to express our profound gratitude to H.E. President Paul Biya through this motion of support. We know as the father of the Nation he listens to everyone. The salary arrears paid to CDC workers is an eloquent testimony”, Viang Mekala added.

He urged CDC workers to make maximum use of the money by sending their children to school and also do a lucrative project with the money to benefit themselves and the community.

Viang Mekala called on CDC workers to work hard to improve the revenue of the Corporation so as to take care of the salary of workers and other projects of the institution.

On his part, Limbe City Mayor, Paul Efome L.M Ngale, said “It’s a sign of gratitude for the people of Fako Division to send a motion of support to H.E. President Paul Biya for paying the second phase of the salary arrears of CDC workers.

He opined that the money will not only affect positively the people of Fako Division but to a greater extent the national territory. “It’s an eloquent testimony that the Head of State doesn’t play with the people of Fako Division and Limbe in particular”, he said.

He applauded the management and workers of CDC for being patient. He also re-echoed his voice to that of Fako SDO for the workers to make maximum use of the money.

Limbe City Mayor Paul Efome used the event to announce availability of stores for CDC workers and the general population who intend to do business.

The representative of Prof Nalova, Ndima Gabriel, urged CDC workers to massively vote President Paul Biya on Sunday, October 12, presidential election. “Now that you have received your salary arrears, we expect you to massively vote for CPDM 100%”, he said.

In his intervention, Hon. Findi Stanley said the militants all answered present to show their support to their father, H.E. President Paul Biya for his usual way of hearing the cry of CDC workers.

“President Paul Biya is someone who always matches his words with action. He made a promise to liquidate the salary arrears of CDC workers and it has come to pass. As militants of CPDM, we couldn’t remain silent. That’s why we are here today to extend our gratitude to H.E President Paul Biya”, Hon. Findi said.
