D.O. Nicholas Manchang succumbs to bullet wounds after Limbe attack

The former Divisional Officer D.O. of Bamenda II Subdivision, Nicholas Nkongho Manchang died barely a week after a presidential decree on July 22, 2025 redeployed him to Baham, Upper Plateau Division in the West Region in the same capacity.

The outgoing DO of Bamenda II Subdivision succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Douala General hospital following a close-range shooting in Limbe by unknown gunmen on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear. Before his passing, Manchang had a distinguished career in administration, serving in various roles such as; Assistant Senior Divisional Officer before appointed as DO for Belo Subdivision – First Assistant SDO of Boyo – Second Assistant SDO in Donga Matung and Boyo Divisions.

It should be noted that Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Nicholas Nkongho and five others were kidnapped at Ntumbaw, in Donga Mantung Division on their way to Nkambe for the installation of the new Divisional Officer but were later released.

The death of Nicholas Nkongho brings the number to two prominent personalities to give up the ghost serving in Bamenda II Subdivision, after the shooting to death of Superintendent of Police, Assila before now. He was serving as the special branch commissioner for Bamenda II.
