The Director General of Election at ELECAM, Dr Erik Essousse chaired last November 13, 2024, a coordination meeting with Regional Delegates of Elections Cameroon at the Yaoundé Headquarters building of ELECAM.
Speaking to the Regional Delegates, Dr Erik Essousse expressed joy following President Paul Biya’s congratulatory message to ELECAM in his swearing in speech. “We have the merit of having overcome this challenge. Organizing a presidential election is difficult because it is organised in the whole world’’, he said. Dr Erik Essousse expressed satisfaction over ELECAM’s organisation of the October 12, 2025 presidential election and told the regional delegates that they should keep working hard in order to obtain favourable appreciation in the near future.
‘‘We must work with expertise, method and humility. We must be at work because there is no small election. Regional election has 25000 voters but the same challenge’’, declared the DG of Election.
While urging Regional Delegates to remain mobilised and be serious as they did for the presidential, he reminded them that they are meeting for efficient strategy and the harmonisation of procedures.
Regional Delegate for Elections Cameroon for the North West, Bowa Elvis told reporters that, ‘‘this morning we are here to have a coordination meeting with the Director General of Elections to first of all evaluate the just ended presidential election and to also look at the level of preparedness for the forthcoming elections of regional councillors. The strategy will not necessarily have to be the same, because we know that with this election, we will no longer be dealing with the universal suffrage. This is an election where we are dealing with an electoral college, which is made up of municipal councillors and recognised traditional rulers. So, as provided by the law, the elections are supposed to take place at divisional headquarters.’’
He furthered that, “In the weeks ahead, we will be doing training of these polling agents. As far as human personnel preparation is concerned, the material preparation arrangements have been made where material will be stored and how material will be transported to their respective voting centres.’’
