The Limbe City Council extended has attended to the needs of some Internally Displaced Persons in Limbe, with items worth FCFA 4.500.000. The colourful ceremony took place on Wednesday March 6, 2019 at the Limbe City Council Hall Down Beach.
Addressing the IDPs, the Government Delegate to the Limbe city council, Motanga Andrew Monjimba said the distribution of items to the IDPs was spearheaded by the women of the Limbe city council in line with the celebration of the 34th edition of the International Women’s Day.
“The first thing, I will want to remind ourselves is that, Limbe is the town of friendship.” Motanga Andrew said. “Though our hearts are heavy, we are comforted by the fact that we are fulfilling a noble mission, that of extending a hand of fellowship and solidarity to our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and children”, Motanga maintained.
The Limbe city council boss regretted that, indeed it is a pitiful situation which should call for collective revolt by all to put an end to the crisis. “We all have a responsibility to plead to the conscience of our brothers who have taken up arms against the state; look at the sheer suffering they have subjected their own people to”, Motanga Andrew stated.
On her part, the divisional delegate of social affairs for Fako Irene Manga, revealed that, out of the 50 families idetified , the average number of persons should be three to four persons, summing to a total of 200 persons who benefitted from the largesse of the LCC.
Irene Manga called on those whose names were not registered on the list either at the Divisional Officer’s office or divisional delegation of Social Affairs Fako to do so, in order that the administration will be able to know the number of persons living in the Limbe municipality who need support.
“We put ourselves in your shoes and we feel your problems, reason why the LCC has come to give this token to you as a way of consoling most of you and assuring you that you are in a secured and calm place”, Irene Manga told the IDPs.
It should be noted that, the gifts consisted of 50 bags of rice, 50 bags of salt, 50 bottles of vegetable oil, 50 packets of Maggi, 50 Buckets, 50 bottles of Palm oil, 50 cartoons of Soaps, and 50 Mattress.
On her part, the representative of the IDPs, Pauline Bitingwe appreciated the donation given by the Limbe City Council. She said that leaving their war zone, they found comfort in Limbe.
Pauline Bitingwe added that, they were advised to register at the divisional delegation of Social Affairs which they did, and enjoined her peers to all register so they too can benefit from such largesse.
The ceremony which fell on the 10 years anniversary of Motanga as Government Delegate also saw him receiving an award from the President of Traders Union Njie Stephen, who said they thought it wise to award the Government Delegate with an award for his numerous developmental projects in the municipality and urged him to continue to do more.
