Peter Essoka calls on journalists to toe gov’t line

The National President of the National Communication Council has made public a press release calling on journalists to be professional in their write ups.
The release is in reaction to media coverage following the march called by the leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) on Saturday January 26, 2019 in some Cameroonian cities, and unfortunate repercussions that followed in Cameroon as in some of our diplomatic missions abroad.
Indicated that the Government of the Republic, informed all professionals media about the truth of the facts through official procedures.
He however regretted that the National Communication Council has observed that some press continues, without foundation, spread opinion contrary to the governmental position, thereby, maintaining confusion in the public opinion.
He also regretted the fact that some audiovisual media have made themselves conspicuous in the dissemination of words conveying a hate speech.
Peter Essoka’s press release also indicated that the NCC has noted different cases of publication or dissemination;
– of unfounded statements and erroneous information of a conflicting nature,
– of sedition or incitement to tribal hatred, in short,
– of drifts that constitute breaches of professional ethics and professional conduct.

He warned that the editorial options are hardly consistent with the threefold function of information, education and social reliance that professional journalists, especially in times of crisis, have.
He also recalled that the Council, pursuant to the provisions of Article 4 (1) of the decree of 23 January 2012 reorganizing the CNC, ensures the respect of professional ethics and deontology, as well as social peace, the National unity and integration in all media.
The President of the National Communication Council called on all media stakeholders to demonstrate professionalism and responsibility in the collection, processing, and dissemination of information intended for the media. public opinion.
