From the start of this year’s Limbe City Council inter-quarter football tournament, it was visible that there was increased colour and high interest uncommon to the past. The huge crowd which stormed the Limbe Centenary Stadium on Saturday, September 6, to witness the close of the competition, in palpable ambiance, showed the very important place this sporting activity occupies in the hearts of Limbe city dwellers.

-Choc City, Best Star crowned champions

Choc City of Cite Sic are the winners of the fresh edition IV of Limbe City Council (LCC) inter-quarter football competition. They beat Cassava Farms FC 2:1. The football tournament tagged “Football For President Paul Biya’s Social Policy” was placed under the patronage of Prof. Pauline Nalova Lyonga, who was represented at the finals by Ndima Gabriel.

The match that kicked-off at about 4pm saw Cassava Farms’ Arrey Jefter open score at 19 minutes of play. Choc City kept on mounting pressure and equalised at the 38th minute before the end of the first half.

After resumption of second half, both teams kept missing opportunities, failing to cement it to goals. It was only during additional time that Choc City stroke from the 18 meter box to cement the scores to 2:1.

Meanwhile, the female category match took place earlier at about 1:30pm, where defending champions, Best Stars of Bota scored the lone goal during 19 minutes of play. During the second half, Mbum girls kept mounting pressure to equalise but to no avail. The match ended 1:0 in favour of Best Star.

Closing the fresh edition IV in both male and female categories, the vision bearer, Paul Efome said the city of Limbe has been at the epicenter of local football throughout the country thanks to the massive echoes the Limbe City Council inter-quarter football tournament has produced.

“What an epic experience it has been this year! For four years now, this competition has steadily and confidently progressed and today we can say it without fear or favour that the Limbe City Council Inter-quarter football tournament is the biggest in Cameroon and in the Central African Sub region”, he opined.

“The reputation of this competition has grown past the level of a mere football bonanza. Today it has become a mini trade fare of opportunities for many. Trade-fair: because thanks to this Tournament, many aspects of our city have been projected”, Efome said.

Paul Efome said the tournament has put on another pedestal the love bond, harmony that exists amongst denizens of Limbe municipality. “Limbe City Council Inter-quarter has helped in facilitating a no-stress back-to-school for many children. Petit business operators have made huge gains in the two months that spanned this tourney” City Mayor, Paul Efome said.

He stated that Limbe City Council inter-quarters has produced talents fit to be called up at the various levels of the national teams and even at prestigious clubs in Europe.

“Following the high sense of responsibility and exceptional sportsmanship which prevailed throughout this tournament, I have therefore decided to offer us more spectacle. I am pleased to announce the imminent hosting of the Limbe inter-quarter champions league dubbed “Limbe Champions League” Paul Efome announced.

He explained that the tournament shall regroup the champions of major local competition including the LCC tourney, Wovia, Bonadikombo, Bobende and Limbola. “This major sports innovation in our football landscape is my gift to the sports loving population of this municipality.” Paul Efome added.

During the prize award ceremony, in the male category, Louga Victor Bibila of Bonadikombo emerged best club president, Kwedi Elombo coach of Lower Busumbu won best coach, Mbonog Collins was crowned man of the match, Mulac Giresse of Bonadikombo won top goalscorer with 5 goals, Ngala Nigel of Moliew FC won best youngest player, Gah Kingsley Ashu of Jametown FC won best player, Church Street FC emerged best fair play team.

4th placed team Mokunda FC grabbed FCFA 200,000, 3rd placed team Jamestown FC of Lumpsum received FCFA 500,000 plus medal, first runners up, Cassava Farms FC received FCFA 1 million plus FCFA 200, 000 from MTN, while champion, Choc City went home with FCFA 2.5 million and FCFA 400,000 from MTN.

Meanwhile in the female category, Achang Codella or Best Star ladies emerged best player, Megne Marcile of Glorious Academy Noel won best goalkeeper, Ange Moumeni emerged youngest best player, Mary Stella of Glorious Academy won top goal scorer, Ange Moumeni won woman of the match, Leutou Layou Hean Baptiste won best referee, Royal Falcons emerged fair play team with FCFA 100,000 plus trophy, 2nd runners up, Hidden Skills girls of Mokunda grabbed FCFA 300,000 and medals, second placed team, Mbum girls received FCFA 700,000 plus medals and trophy, while the champion, Best Star received FCFA 1000,000 with medals and trophy.

-President of organising committee reaffirms youth unflinching support to Limbe City Mayor

On his part, the president of the organising committee, Ngoyo Leon, reaffirmed the youth unflinching support to Limbe City Mayor for his developmental projects geared towards transforming Limbe and creating an enabling environment for peaceful co-existence and national integration despite the visible financial challenges. He said this year, 24 teams participated for the men’s category and 8 for the female. The 24 teams were paired into four pools at the elimination phase of way league.

At the end of this phase, four teams from each pool qualified for the eight finals, then to the quarter finals to semi finals. He added that due to the love and empowerment strategies for the youth, the City Mayor, Paul Efome L.M Ngale deemed it necessary to keep the youth occupied and give them an opportunity to showcase their hidden talents in football.

Paul Efome L.M Ngale appreciated all stakeholders and partners like; MTN Cameroon, Covenant Group, La Castrol, Bamboo Event Center and Advanced Technology, amongst many others for their support.

He equally used the opportunity to call for effective back to school come Monday, September 8, 2025. “My wish and plea this day is that the same unity, love, living together and oneness that we demonstrated during this tournament, be the same as schools resume”, Paul Efome added.

In his intervention, the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Fako, Engelbert Viang Mekala said, “We have talents in Fako Division and Limbe in particular. Our head coach of the Indomitable Lions can scout for them here in Limbe.”

He also reechoed the call for back-to-school saying all security measures have been put in place to secure parents and teachers for the start of this new school year.

He appreciated the fair play of the youth during the tournament. He equally appreciated Limbe City Mayor, Paul Efome for a successful IV edition to keep the youth busy during the two months holiday.
