Parliament awaits 2026 Finance Bill for scrutiny

The November ordinary session of Cameroon’s Parliament officially opened at the National Assembly and the Senate last November 3, 2025. Members of the Senate and of the National Assembly are presently idling after the oath taking ceremony of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya last November 6, 2025. Once the finance bill is in Parliament, members of the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly will be spending sleepless nights as they receive members of Government to defend their budgetary allocations.

Rt Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril opening the November ordinary session

Officially opening the session in the Lower House of Cameroon’s Parliament, House Speaker, Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril called for a minute of silence in memory of all lives lost in the post-election violence in the country “unfortunately, after failing to win, one candidate called for civil disobedience by inciting Cameroonians, nay youths, to contest the election results, foment disorder and destroy private and public property-a situation that inadvertently resulted in loss of lives. It was under such circumstances that our fellow Member, Honourable ABE Michael NDRA, was brutally murdered”, he said.

The Rt Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril continued that, “it is worthy to note that the 2026 State budget would be the very first for the President’s new seven-year term under the Policy of Great Hope formulated by the President of the Republic himself. It is, therefore, my ardent wish that the 2026 State budget would be realistic after it had been prepared in conformity with the Head of State’s policy guidelines and would, above all, enable His Excellency Paul BIYA to begin his new seven-year term with great hope by fully meeting the aspirations of the people who renewed their confidence in him.”

The Rt Hon Speaker of the National Assembly reminded fellow MPs that “the ordinary session expressly has two items on the agenda, namely the solemn swearing-in ceremony of the President Elect and adoption of the State budget for the 2026 financial year.”
