Territorial Administration Minister, Atanga Nji Paul has warned Prof Maurice Kamto of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM party to stay off government’s drawn redline, or be ready to face the wrath of the law and troops.
2018 Presidential candidate and former Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Justice, Prof Maurice Kamto it should be recalled refused accepting results of last October 7, 2018 presidential election proclaimed by the Constitutional Council.
Sending out the warning signal at a press briefing last October 26, 2018 at his ministry in Yaounde, Minister Atanga Nji who noted that the administration has so far shown proof of tolerance, threatened that, “we will henceforth not tolerate any disorder, as any attempt to disrupt public order will be handled with all firmness.”
He further signaled that “perpetrators likewise those they would have incited into joining them will have to answer before competent judicial institutions.”
The Territorial Administration boss after recalling that the 2018 electoral process in Cameroon is over following the proclamation of the results of the presidential election last October 22 indicating a 71% victory for President Paul Biya of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party, reminded Maurice Kamto that “to the best of my knowledge, being a candidate in a presidential election or member of a political party does not give immunity.”
He concluded that “all those who will attempt to violate the laws of the Republic will answer before the law courts and will rigorously be treated by these same laws.”
The Minister who regretted that “before the presidential election and thereafter, a candidate took upon himself to make illegal and anti-constitutional declarations, proclaiming himself winner even before the Constitutional Council could give its verdict, reminded the population that after the period of grace accorded due to the last presidential election, all public manifestations have to respect the prescription of the law.
He decried that “while Cameroonians are waiting for the oath-taking ceremony of their President-elect, H.E Paul Biya to crown the electoral process, the candidate and his followers have never stopped from multiplying provocations and other dangerous acts on social peace by attempting to organize insurrections.”
Many people thought that by deciding to abide by the rules, notably, petitioning the Constitutional Council and freely making his arguments, Prof Maurice Kamto could no longer return to his initial position of rejecting the results of the polls and threatening to defend the mandate which he declares to have received from Cameroonians on October 7, 2018.
