According to a recent communiqué issued by the Honorary Consul Designate of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Douala, Cameroon, Nsangou Mbombo, it informs that information circulating that the death of Bangladesh official, 58-year-old Mahbubur Raman, as a result of malaria which he contracted while in Cameroon, is nothing but mere speculation.

Late Mahbubur Raman

While specifying that Mahbuh was not the country’s trade minister but secretary of the commerce ministry in Bangladesh who was part of the delegation to Cameroon to attend the 14th Ministerial Conference MC14 of the World Trade Organisation, the Consul Designate observed that no official communiqué by the government of Bangladesh has been established on the exact cause of Mahbubur Raman’s death, dismissing the claims of malaria contracted in Cameroon during the conference.

Information had circulated that the Banglesh official’s death which occurred last April 17, was as a result of malaria he contracted in Yaoundé during the World Trade Conference held in Cameroon from March 26 to 29. Reports held that his family stated that he had not been briefed on the risks of malaria in Cameroon.

The Consul Designate however urged the media to operate on the pillars of responsibility and rigor in the dissemination of information to avoid confusion or disinformation which could put in jeopardy the memory of the deceased, his family or relations between Bangladesh and Cameroon.
