Speaking in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Public Works in charge of Roads, Armand Ndjodom, Minister Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi defined the priorities for 2026: ‘‘New projects will be launched in areas that do not know particular difficulties such as; Bekoko-Limbe-Idenau road, Yaounde-Douala, Ngatt-Febadi-Likok road in the Adamawa region, Mora Dabanga-Kousseri road corridor.’’

Members of the Steering Committee equally resolved to speed up the execution of ongoing projects such as the Ring Road, the Bogo-Pouss, Mora-Kousseri and Ngaoundere-Garoua roads, completion of projects in advanced stage, strengthening governance and performance through improved project coordination, accelerating contract award process etc.

Nganou Djoumessi stressed that, ‘‘we want to transform the national road network into a powerful driver of development, serving the national economy, promoting regional integration and improves the living conditions of the population.’’

The Public Works boss however regretted that, ‘’we have not achieved our goals for various reasons. The performance of the companies is not satisfactory because the financial capacities are low. There is this strong weathering which contributes to the degradation of road works. In short, there are security issues. In 2025, we had 19 projects, 13 of which were carried out in areas where security is a major challenge.’’

The Minister underscored the importance of their committee as it plays a crucial role in developing road and airport infrastructure. To date, the technical and financial partners supporting government in modernisation of its infrastructure have mobilised funding amounting to FCFA 2,076 since 2001 for the implementation of road and air transport projects.

In reaction, the General Coordinator of BGFT, El Hadj Oumarou told the press that, ‘‘the Minister of Public Works is putting in great efforts, but may the other members of the government make the same efforts, so that there is a combination of efforts in the direction of development as desired by the people of Cameroon.’’
