Constitutional Council set for legal showdown -Proceedings begin on Oct. 17 -Kamto assembles high profile consortium of lawyers to defend case -Cabral Libii, Joshua Osih also in the fray

Public hearing on petitions from a total of five complainants who deposited appeals before the October 10 midnight deadline opens October 17, 2018 at the Yaounde Conference Centre hosting the Constitutional Council.
A total of 18 complaints regarding the conduct of the October 7 presidential election were filed at the Constitutional Council by three candidates taking part in the race to the Unity Palace and two others whose candidatures were rejected by ELECAM.
Maurice Kamto of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement is requesting the cancellation of votes in seven regions; Far North, North West, South West, East, South, Adamawa and North regions, arguing that there were violations of some provisions of the Electoral Code and disregard for Akere Muna’s withdrawal from the race.

On his part, Social Democratic Front candidate, Joshua Osih filed for a total cancellation of the election on grounds that provisions of the Constitution and Electoral Code were violated.
Another candidate, Cabral Libii of UNIVERS after complaining of irregularities in several polling stations across the national territory is demanding for total cancellation of the election.
Meanwhile, Bertin Kisob of the Cameroon Party for Social Justice, who is being detained at the Kondengui dungeon, filed 14 petitions. He is demanding among other things, the annulment of CPDM votes in all the ten regions of the country and the Diaspora and wants the CPDM banned for 25 years.
Apart from demanding that the Constitutional Council declares self incompetence to examine petitions and declare results of presidential elections, he is also charging that ELECAM management team should be fired.
Finally, Reverend Rigobert Aminou whose candidature was also rejected by ELECAM wants the whole election to be cancelled and reorganized.
