Ekondo Titi Council in Ndian Division of the South West Region has joined the ongoing fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The Council headed by Mayor Kenneth Nanje last week donated tablets of soap, masks, bucket taps and hand sanitisers to the population in a heavily attended ceremony at the esplanade of the Council.
Though Ekondo Titi, a town that shares a common boundary with neighbouring Nigeria is yet to record any COVID -19 case according to medics in the area, the Mayor hinted that the donation was very timely, and that the Council had to engage in a mass sensitisation to educate the population to understand that COVID-19 is real. The donation in Ekondo – Titi the Mayor said, is coming at a time when a number of positive cases has been recorded in the Region by the Regional Delegate of Public Health, Dr Ebongo Zachs Nanje.

Mayor Nanje called on the population to respect the measures implemented by the World Health Organisation, WHO, and the government of Cameroon. The measures he hinted include social distancing, putting on face masks, washing hands regularly and sanitising same as often as they can, avoid public places and respect the 6pm closing time. With all these measures respected by the population, the Mayor observed Ekondo – Titi will never have a COVID-19 case.
The Council equally donated COVID-19 preventive instruments to the hospital staff, reason being that they are very vulnerable since they receive all types of patients with complicated illnesses.
Reacting to the gesture, a commercial bike rider who received a mask, a bottle of hand sanitiser and soap expressed joy. He said he has been disturbed by what he gets on the media about COVID-19 and today the lectures given by the various stakeholders at the esplanade of the Council thanks to the council authorities about the coronavirus pandemic, gives him reason to believe that it is real and that there’s need to respect the measures in place.
