ELECAM intensifies preparations ahead of 7th Consultation Forum with Stakeholders

Elections Cameroon, ELECAM is intensifying preparations ahead of its 7th National Consultation Forum with stakeholders this year described by keen observers as very crucial in prelude to the 2018 election year in Cameroon. This was one of the key points discussed last April 6 at the Yaoundé Mont Febe Hotel during the 2nd Ordinary Session of the Electoral Board of ELECAM for 2017 chaired by the President of the Electoral Board, Dr Samuel Fonkam Azu’u.
In a final communiqué issued at the end of their closed-door deliberations, it is said that Board members congratulated the Director General of Elections, Abdoulaye Babale for the better execution of the 2016 budget of ELECAM and laudable figures recorded in voters’ registration revision exercises.
After presenting the administrative account and the management account of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Abdoulaye Babale in the progress report of the Directorate General of Elections from January to March 2017 on the state of the enrolment on the electoral registers revealed that ELECAM registered some 100.404 new voters as of March 31, 2017 with some 11.881 voters registered each week.
According to these recent figures, the Centre Region tops the voters’ registration chart with 27.081 voters while the West Region comes 2nd with 14.262 and the Far North Region occupies the 3rd position with 14.035 voters. The South West Region on its part occupies the last position with only 1.910 voters registered within this period.
It should be recalled that in 2016, ELECAM registered some 3 242 091 women and 2 915 226 men making a total of 6 157 317 voters.
