The Mayor of the Buea council, Ekema Patrick Esunge and his workers heavily guarded by security forces have once again taken the bold step by getting extremely tough with business operators and taxi drivers in the Buea municipality.
The Mayor in his most recent and latest outing on Monday January 28 2019 said enough is enough. While patrolling the streets of Buea, the mayor unsealed shops which were sealed the previous Monday and whose’ owners were present. For those who still remained adamant and respected the ghost town, their shops remained sealed.
To the taxi drivers, the mayor for the past two Mondays, strategized with workers and security officers to impound taxi’s at his premises on Sundays. So that the taxi drivers could return on Mondays, take their cabs and carry on with their activity.
During the patrol, the Mayor said all of these actions are geared toward putting an end to the so-called ghost town. “We intend to normalize life in our city, beat and chase away the devil/ghost from the municipality of Buea. The business community approached me on a way forward to beat and kick the ghost out of the city of Buea”
Assuring the business people and store owners of their safety and security was South west governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai who was part of the patrol team. He told them to report to any administrative authority in case of any worry. “Do not be afraid. It is not terrorists who will tell us what to do. They cannot detect our lives for us” he averred.
The patrol is expected to continue every Mondays until the ghost is beaten out of the city. It is important to note that, as in the case of the civil servants, heavy sanctions equally await business operators, taxi drivers, commercial agents, etc. who continue to respond positively to the ghost calls. The Mayor and his workers together with the forces of law and order intend to do everything possible to ensure that life returns to normalcy in the Buea Municipality.
