“With Mr. Biya in power, there is no way the Anglophone problem can be addressed. He only has a military solution to this crisis. But if the regime is replaced, we can come together as one people and discuss the way forward”. Those are the words of the president of the Cameroon’s People Party (CPP), Edith Kahbang Walla, who spoke live from Douala on Sunday October 14, to German International Broadcaster, Deutsche Welle.
According to Kah Walla, the much needed change in Cameroon, can be achieved only through a political transition, and not the ballot box.
She says Cameroonians are hungry for change, and urged them to now gear up for a peaceful revolution that will usher in change.
To her, the process is one which has to do with the combination of the English speaking Cameroonians together with their French counterparts to oust the Biya regime.
“I’m even more bent on ousting the Biya regime through a non-violent manner. Cameroonians hold the power to do this. The ballot box has proven to not be a solution”.
In her opinion, the CPP leader maintained, the best form of the state is Federalism. “Personally I think Federalism is the best option. Let us stay together, but render our regions autonomous such that regional heads will take decisions based on the realities of each region.”
Kah Walla also expressed concerns over the situation of Internally Displaced Persons and the absence of children in most schools in the two troubled regions.
She called on those involved in hostilities to drop their weapons, for, the current tensions, she says, have brought untold hardships.
“It does not matter who drops the weapon first…it is true the government has been brutalizing, killing and radicalizing youths from the start of the crisis. And as violence continues, the civilians suffer more. I think a non-violent approach is the best strategy to adopt”.
