Construction works on two road projects in Limbe are said to be going on, in spite of some challenges being witnessed. This was revealed to the commission team headed by Fako SDO recently, during an inspection visit to the sites.
The Towe road project involves the tarring of the road from CDE junction to Towe, a length of 1.16km, while the second road project involves that from behind central police station linking unity quarter annex, a length of about 1.670km.
According to Nguepinsi Jean, the project engineer of the Limbe City Council, the road projects currently stand at 44.64 percent and 45 percent respectively.
Nguepinsi explained to the team that work is going on, but there are some challenges that need to be addressed.
He made mention of land expropriation and the need to compensate those affected, network displacement(due to the urbanized nature of the quarter), drainage problems, non-respect of sign posts by population (resulting in accidents), heavy rains, difficult terrain (high slopes) etc.
He told the team that “You can observe the machines have stopped working because of technical failure. We are struggling to solve it so we can resume work.”
Nguepinsi hopes that with the team’s visit, some of these challenges will be addressed.
It should be noted that the commission team was satisfied with the level of execution of the two projects.
The road projects were launched on Saturday July 8, 2017 with a deadline of eight and six months respectively at a cost of FCFA 994.411.815 and FCFA 248.998.740 but due to heavy rains the constructors plead for extension of deadline.
