An element of the Kumba Central Police Station, whose name could not be procure at press time, has in strong terms promised to kill the Kumba Bureau chief of The Post Newspaper, Maxcel Fokwen, whom he said is an ‘Ambazonian’.
The incident that occurred on Friday June 15, at 6:15pm in front of the Kumba newspaper stand, some few kilometres from the Kumba Central Police Station was disclosed in Maxcel Fokwen’s post on Facebook, titled “If you find my flesh lifeless, then ask the police to explain”.
According to the post, he was at the news stand when an officer approached and began interrogating him.
“A police officer walks to me at the Kumba newsstand. He then beckons on me to come. Afterwards, am asked to produce my identity card and what followed was a series of unending questions in French”, the post read.
“Despite telling him I came to collect a newspaper…the officer insisted and tells his colleagues on duty ‘chef voici L’ambazonie qui vient ici’, then I retorted that I don’t know what he was saying”.
The reporter who was griped with shock and panic tried to cover his surprise with a forceful smile before identifying himself as a journalist. This however angered the officer.
‘As I smiled telling him I am a journalist who oftentimes visit their service for professional work, he gave me a stern warning. ‘eh ne blague pas avec moi. Je ne vien pas ici pour ris avec toi. Je te tue maintenant’. The post also narrates that the officer then asked for his professional card which he said he left it at home since it was a public holiday.
As their interaction gained momentum, the officer searched his body to ascertain his claim. Fortunately, his search proved futile.
“Before I could speak further, he looked at the complexion of my hands keenly then opened up my undies and said he was going to find out about me”, he said.
“I maintained that I could not connect with all his insinuations. The officer makes a few steps towards the newsstand and then returned my credentials promising doom”.
The reporter immediately made a call to the Central Police Commissioner for Kumba. He then promised to investigate the matter.
