It has been reported that on Friday, March 2, some houses were set on fire by the military at Etam village in Kupe Muanenguba Division, Southwest Region.
According to sources in the village, the burning of some houses and sporadic shooting in Etam could have been provoked by the terrible happenings and recent killings that have taken place in Etam by unidentified gunmen.
Other version holds that the act by the military is in retaliation to the killing and burning of an elderly man in Etam whose son is a military officer.
The act which took place during the early hours of the day forced villagers to run into the forest for safety.
The attack comes four days after a military raid in nearby Ebonji left two civilians dead, several arrested and taken to unknown destination, properties destroyed and motorbikes set at blaze.
In a related incident, The Sun gathered that as the military tried to make its way to Etam through Teke in Kumba III Sub-Division, houses along the road were invaded and bullets were shot at random.
Teke villages fled into the forest and nearby Bakossi Camp in Kumba III Sub-Division for safety.
Most of the villagers had returns as at press time after the military had moved to Etam.
