Two members of government, minister of public health, Manaouda Malachie and that of water resources and energy, Eloundou Essomba Gaston visited South West Region on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 to get first hand information on the cholera epidemic situation of the region.
The evaluation visit which started in Buea saw the two ministers accompanied by the governor of the South West Region Bernard Okalai Bilai visit the Buea regional hospital, Mile 16 Bolifamba health center, before stopping at Mile I regional hospital, dockyard and Bota District hospital. They ended at Limbe City Council Hall Down Beach for an evaluation meeting.
Speaking during the meeting, the governor of the South West Region Okalia Bernard Bilai explained that the situation is under control. Limbe has recorded seven deaths out of 10,435 cases, Buea six deaths out of 389 cases, Bakassi 12 dead out of 340 cases, Ekondo-Titti 312 cases with seven dead. Tiko has registered 5 deaths out of 374 cases while Kumba is on 354 cases with 6 dead.
Camwater debunks rumours of dead man in its tank
Meanwhile, the regional delegate of Camwater Ebot David denied all allegations of someone died inside the tank. He urged the population to continue consuming Camwater that the water is very good for consumption.
Speaking after the meeting, the minister of Public Health Manaouda Malachie said in Buea they saw that the situation is quite good, but in Limbe it is stable. “We think the organisation here is doing a good job. So I think that in the South West Region the situation of cholera is under control”,
“So according to instructions we have given to our staff here they are going to intensify the situation of the population by vaccinating them,” Malachie explained.
He added that the population should quickly go to a nearby clinic when they discover any symptoms of cholera epidemic.
On his part, the minister of water resources and energy Eloundou Essomba Gaston said the main resolution is that, they have instructed Camwater to supply a truck which will supply all the cities with clean water. “After this meeting we’re going to make proposals to the Head of Government to create more boreholes as requested by the population so as to intervene to solve the cholera epidemic.
