MTN Cameroon seals deal with gov’t to digitalise public service

The leader of the telecommunications sector in the country, MTN Cameroon will in the days ahead digitalise Cameroon’s public service following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms last November 13, 2019 in Yaounde.
The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon, Hendrik Kasteel signed for his company while Minister Joseph Le signed for the government under the watchful eyes of Ministers Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe of Transport, Nalova Lyonga of Secondary Education, Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Justice, Jean De Dieu Momo, Secretary of State to the Minister of Housing and Urban Development in charge of Housing, Marie Rose Dibong etc.

In his speech, the CEO of MTN Cameroon while rejoicing that “it is an honour for us at MTN Cameroon to participate in the digital transformation of Cameroon,” reassured government that, “you have in MTN Cameroon, a solid, motivated and innovative partner ready to deliver the goods.”
On his part, the Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, Joseph Le explained that “as manager of civil servants and adviser of ministries on administrative reforms, our ministry is at the centre of modernisation of the public administration.”
He added that “As part of our desire to modernise the Cameroon public service on instruction of the President of the Republic, H.E Paul Biya, I solicited high skills from MTN Cameroon. This partnership will enable us to benefit from digital services for our civil servants. This partnership will enable MINFOPRA staff to communicate among themselves at toll free rates.”
Minister Joseph Le stated that “Because at MINFOPRA, the user is king, we want that any user should be able to get information on the treatment of files, entrance exams, number of bench of candidate at competitive entrance examination and latest information on the ministry without internet or call charges.”
He declared that “after SIGIPES, we are now at the level of mobility and flexibility by diversifying our services in order to get closer to our users.”
The Minister told MTN that “In order to avoid delays we do not want middlemen in our partnership with you, so we want to deal directly with you.”
To match words with action, MTN Cameroon and the government signed for the very first time, a digital version of the MoU on a tablet.
