Members of the National order of Cameroon Contractors, NACOCAM for the North West Region, under the leadership of, John Akere, have resolved to weed out charlatans who have brought disrepute to the profession.

The National President, John Akere, revealed that he is on a nationwide tour that started in the far North to enforce this resolution. According to him, the association was formed, firstly to serve as a forum to educate and train its members on all developments in the public contract sector, promote members and business ethics within members and in the public contract in general by insuring their participation from award of contracts to execution of all investment projects, negotiate profitable deals both within and out of the country, advocate for rights of its members and lastly, unite all other organizations with similar objective, both local and national, in order to make the contractors speak with one voice.
The NACOCAM national president revealed that the problems plaguing their sector stems from the fact that some individuals who pass as contractors have taken advantage of the sector and abusing it. He said the forum now presents an opportunity for these charlatans to be identified and removed from the sector.
NACOCAM regional president for the NWR, Neba Ngu fabian, on his part, blamed the delay in payments at all the level of the treasury on the slow execution of public projects.
According to NACOCAM SG, Fortoh Fongang Charles who doubles as the regional representative, the lowest bidder orientation to award contract has also led to poor execution or even abandonment of some projects.
The representative of NW Governor who happened to be the cultural and economic adviser, Ivo Makoge, said the meeting was very timely considering the numerous abandoned projects in the region. “The projects are either poorly executed or abandoned”, pointing out that the creation of the ministry of public contracts was to work with the contractors for efficient and quality results.
