The Secretary General of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Jean Tchoffo chaired last May 22, 2026 at the Amphi300 of their Ministry in Yaounde the launching ceremony of a national roadmap on circular economy in Cameroon. With 32 objectives, 102 actions, a resource mobilization plan, a governance framework, an implementation plan, a monitoring and evaluation mechanism the roadmap was produced thanks to the fruitful partnership maintained with the African Development Bank Group through the African Facility.

The vision of Cameroon becoming leader in circular economy by 2035 in Africa will therefore only be achieved if stakeholders work in synergy to tackle the numerous challenges such as inadequate waste management, plastic pollution, deforestation and post-harvest losses in the agricultural sector.

It was agreed that after this launching organisers will seek for approval from the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute so that, the various sectorial ministries should implement the document.

The Focal Point of Circular Economy at the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Dr Efangon Daniel Yannick saluted this initiative saying the roadmap is a strategic instrument aimed at accompanying Cameroon’s transition to an economic module more sustainable, wealth creation, green and resistant employment in the face of climate change.

Talking to reporters after presenting the national roadmap, Africa Circular Consultant, Tsonang Jocelyne explained that “the Circular Economy Roadmap which Cameroon just officialised is an important strategic document. So, it’s all about including circular economy or embedding circular economy in all sectoral policies in Cameroon. Altthough it identified some sectors as priority sectors.”

She added that “If you are implementing a project in Cameroon in the agri-food system, in the timber sector, in the forest protection sector, or in the waste management sector, or any sector that produces waste and pollution, look at the Circular Economy Roadmap and make sure that your actions, your priorities, and all the activities that you carry out have an alignment with the Circular Economy Roadmap.”

Representing the African Development Bank Group at the launch, it’s programme officer said ” to support Cameroon in this circular economy, the vision is, first of all, we have supported the roadmap, and this roadmap will give Cameroon the opportunity to define strategic axes with well-defined sectors, as we saw in the presentation.”
