Nigerian diplomat knighted for promoting peace & excellence

An award for peace, excellence and the promotion of good diplomacy has been presented to the Nigerian Consul General to the South West and North West Regions of Cameroon, H.E. Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir, with residence in Buea.
Organised by the Pan African Press Convention, the media organisation saw in the Nigerian-born diplomat a spirit of dynamism, loyalty and the strict respect for diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the countries of West and Central Africa.

The award was given to H.E. Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir on October 25 2019 in Dakar, Senegal, in the presence of the President of the Jury, Joseph Oyie and the chair of the organising committee of the Pan African Press Convention, Abdel Fakir Mohamed. Reacting to the award, H.E. Ibrahim Bashir expressed gratitude to the government of Nigeria and President Mohammadou Buhari, for giving him the opportunity to operate as a Nigerian Diplomat across the world and at this particular moment in Buea, Cameroon, as the Consul General for the Nigerian Diplomatic mission in charge of the South West and North West Regions of Cameroon. He also thanked President Paul Biya of Cameroon for accepting his letter of credence to carry on with his diplomatic career in his country. To the huge Nigerian communities across the South West and North West Regions of Cameroon, he enjoined them to continue to be law-abiding citizens and respect the laws of their host country.
Before the aforementioned recognition, Bashir has had a letter of commendation from the Nigerian Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs in February 2016 for his high sense of responsibility, hard work and diligence.
In July 2017, he received another letter of commendation from the Nigerian Foreign Ministry for diligence, hard work and for being an outstanding face of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Following his recruitment in to the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989, Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir has served as Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources, Director of Protocol at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos, worked at the Nigerian Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland and Norway, the Nigerian High Commission to Pretoria, South Africa, with accreditation to the Kingdoms of Lesotho and Swaziland (today Eswathini). He has also served at the Nigerian Embassy in Brussels, Belgium with jurisdiction to Luxemburg.
Before his redeployment to Buea, Cameroon, H.E. Ibrahim Bashir was the Minister of the Economy and Political Affairs at the Nigerian Embassy in Brussels, Belgium.
