The National Union for Democracy and Progress better known in its French acronym as UNDP of Bello Bouba Maigari has launched campaigns in the North West Region ahead of the upcoming March 25th senatorial elections.
The UNDP began its campaigns on Friday March 16 in Bamenda. In total, the party has been shortlisted 10 substantive candidates and 10 alternate candidates to represent the region during the senatorial polls. Heading the list of the 10 substantive candidates is Leonard Tumenta who believes that if he represents the people of the North West in the upper house of Parliament, he will be able to bring about change in the deteriorating modus operandi of the nation.
“We want to use our contacts nationally and internationally to create employment, put more pressure on the government to give to our parents farm to market roads, improve on health care and we would also provide scholarships to our brothers and sisters who have no means of going to school” he maintained.
To him, the election is going to be an easy one, for, “North westerners know that CPDM has nothing to offer to them. It’s like you want to change the national anthem of a country; they will keep singing the same song, nothing will change”.
While launching the campaigns dubbed his campaign “a new dawn”, in the Ngoketunja Division, on March 17, Leonard Tumenta announced that he is coming to bring change for the population.
Ngoketunja has 107 councilors and the UNDP hopes to challenge its competitors, CPDM and SDF, by having at least 70% of the votes.
Ndasi Elvis, the youngest member of the Central committee for the UNDP told The SUN that, the party is one of hope because it has the most youthful candidates and it is equally gender friendly.
