Some 35 Cooperative Administrators and representatives of Civil Society Organisations drawn from the South West Region have been kept abreast with administrative Strategies to improve on the sustainable management of cooperatives with the view of rendering them more competitive. This is thanks to a four day workshop funded and organised by the South West Development Authority, SOWEDA.
Declaring the seminar opened at the Presbyterian Church Center Kumba the Meme SDO Koulbout Aman David, disclosed that within the framework of the Millennium Development Goals, MDG’s of the Head of State, cooperatives have long been identified as an important sector through which government agricultural and development policies are galvanised and channeled with prime objectives of the improving the living conditions of person and fostering the development of the community. He said the workshop is aimed at impacting to Senior Cooperative Administrations, the professional knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable business in an economic competitive environment. He congratulated SOWEDA for bring out interesting themes such as ,the new government orientation and policies concerning the cooperative sectors, the required financial and accounting procedures based on OHADA Uniform Act, the importance of information and communication technology in the management of cooperatives and the need to respect marketing norms and standards, through proper product processing. He disclosed that because the seminar is coming up timely, the participants should open their ears, concentrate and exploit the opportunity so that the end they will know that its worthwhile participating in the workshop. In his welcome address the General Manager of SOWEDA Dr Eneme Andrew Ngome hinted that SOWEDA, is the apex development institution for the Region and one of its task is to undertake continuous sensitisation and education of involved in defining, leading and articulating the execution of projects with the rural communities and cooperatives and civil society organisation are important factors in this domain. He disclosed that the principal objective of the workshop are to train participants and to keep them abreast with the administrative strategies and related to cooperative and civil society organisations and also to improve on the sustainable management of cooperatives with the view of rendering them more competitive and profitable. The workshop was moderated by Arrah Emmanuel attached to the Monitoring sector in SOWEDA had facilitators such as Vesoh Pius, and Sema Lazare amongst others.
