The principal of St Bedes College Ashingkom, Rv Father Williams Neba who was abducted by suspected separatist fighters has been freed.
The Reverend Father regained his freedom on Wednesday morning after being held in captivity for more than 24 hours. He was abducted on monday April 30, at about 6:30am as he joined the students of his institution to celebrate mass at the schools parish.
Following his abduction, the authorities of St Bedes immediately declared closed the 2017/2018 academic year in the school; this action is anticipated to have sped up the release of Rv Father Williams. Some catholic authorities have blamed the abduction of the principal on the images of the schools effectiveness that was aired over the media.
The SUN’s efforts to know the circumstances under which the Principal was freed were all futile. The only information that was made available was a communique signed by the Director of Communications at the Archdiocese of Bamenda, Fr. Tatah Humphrey Mbuy declaring the release of Fr Williams. To this effect, the Archbishop of Bamenda, His Grace Cornelius Fontem Esua and his auxiliary, His Lordship Michael Miabesue Bibi thanked God immensely for bringing such a trying moment to an end.
Since the start of 2018, the North West Region has recorded several kidnaps, especially amongst administrative authorities. The kidnap of the Reverend Father therefore has pushed many to ask “who actually is safe” given to the fact that the Bible says touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm. To many, if a Reverend Father can be kidnapped, therefore they are only at the mercy of God. Christians, catholics in particular are calling on the government of Cameroon to see in to it that they find a lasting solution to the crisis plaguing the North West and South West regions of the country.
