Two Second class soldiers of the Rapid Intervention Battalion BIR, who were involved in a robbery incident at a Snack in New Town Limbe have been picked up. The two soldiers; Nsangou Hippolite Youssouf with matricule T2019/35099 and Mbida Mengneng Legrand, matricule T2017/32606, all working at the anti-terrorism unit at the BIR – Man O’ War Bay in Limbe, Fako Division, were arrested recently by security operatives, The SUN learnt.
The third person, a civilian who also participated in the attack is still on the run. They were captured by a CCTV camera as they surprised customers at a local snack with guns, seizing their belongings including a car key.
Limbe III: Armed robbers attack traders, collect over FCFA 2 M
In a related development, 12 traders and five Commercial Motor bike riders, on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 lost over FCFA 2 Million to a gang of three armed robbers, who attacked them at gunpoint along the Mabeta ‘Njanga’ road in Limbe III Subdivision.
According to some of the victims contacted by The SUN, they said the gunmen took them hostage and tied them up after taking away their mobile phones. They searched them and took away all their money and other valuable items, after subjecting them to inhuman torture with machetes.
The armed robbers who claimed they were looking for a man they targeted attacked the traders who were on their way to buy their products from the Mabeta Fishing Port.
They also took away a brand new Commercial Motor bike which belonged to one of the Limbe III bike riders. The armed robbers, according to the victims, used the new bike confiscated from the Commercial bike rider to transport themselves from the Slave Trade Village area in Bimbia to escape towards Man O’ War Bay, CDC camp to the city of Limbe.
At press time, the Police had opened investigation into the matter.
