Pope Leo XIV’s presence in Bamenda is consoling – Archbishop Nkea

Pope Leo XIV has arrived Bamenda, head quarters of the North West Region, in day two of his pastoral visit to Cameroon, Thursday, April 16. The Pope upon his arrival was welcomed by a great crowd, with many edging selves to catch a glimpse of the august guest.

At the Peace Meeting with the Bamenda Community, the Archbishop of Bamenda/President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, Archbishop Andrew Fuanya Nkea said, the Pope’s presence in Bamenda is consoling. “Even if you don’t say a word, your presence here is consoling”, he said.

Painting the picture of the armed conflict that has characterised the North West Region for almost a decade, ushering in a period of severe hardship and suffering, the Archbishop observed that the Pope’s visit to the Region signals a new turn of events, as “this is now time for peace.”

The peace meeting will also pave way for the Pope to deliver a special peace prayer for the North West Region and Cameroon.

Pope Leo XIV’s visit to the North West Region is part of his four-day programme in Cameroon, on his maiden African tour.
